Well, the locals are awake. Following on from silencing the chattering natives in the local shop. I awoke this morning with a word painted on my back fense, the word was Lezbein
The letters were in green paint and about 1 foot in hight. Well, my response was to correct the spelling and leave a note in red ink, saying check your spelling and see me.
How would you deal with this type of thing?

You are too funny, to make light of a an event that surely was a defamation of character, I would paint my fence again and look for the scoundrals to pull their ears longer than they need to be, just what I would do! Might want to give them a dictionary while you are at :)

Well, the locals are certainly building up karma for themselves here. Sound more like Transylvania than England (regarding the spelling as well as the behaviour).
I think I would give karma a hand here and set up some surveillance to get them on video. It was probably done at night, but I do have a low-light camcorder. I have had graffitti put on my garage door, it was annoying but nothing personal, so I didn't do anything about it. Just left it there to fade with the weather. If I had immediately painted the door, it would have happened again because the perpetrators would know that I had been affected by it. In this sort of "war" good tactics are important:-)
Seriously though, I shouldn't imagine you would be absolutely OK about it, but I hope it doesn't get to you too much. It wouldn't bother me personally, but I think my wife would be upset. I don't mind them having a go at me, but if it effects my family, then I would need to do something about it, and all is fair in love and war!

That is just terrible eskarena. I am sorry that you are going through this with the natives in your town. I thought the same thing when I read your discussion. They didn't even spell the word correctly! I would love it for you to catch the culprits here. I don't know just exactly how I would deal with this type of situation but I think I would probably call the police and then maybe they could survey your area and keep an eye out for the culprits. Maybe putting your dog outside on a chain might scare them away but then again I would be afraid that they may try to harm your dog so that may not be a good idea.
How about installing a security camera and catching them?
Not in plain view though try hiding it in a tree or something so they can't destroy that too. Good luck!

Crying out loud --this sucks...to put it mildly...I had read your part I and your responses since I hadn't seen that you mentioned how this is affecting your children...It's funny how you are responding to this though...do they do this at night??? Hey how about lining up and concealing dog doo all around the fence--so if and when someone decides to post something else they'll walk in it??And as charlene has suggested how about a police report though...or are they are the locals side??

I honestly don't know how I would deal with you. I like your approach, but that won't make the problem go away. Where I live there are many gay people and I don't see them being harassed. It is more accepted here. I've always been the type to blend in and never had a problem being singled out. I hope this doesn't get worse for you. Good luck.

I have to start proofreading before I send comments.
The first sentence should have read "I don't know how I would have dealt with 'it' not 'you'"

I'm with Rachel on this one. Too bad you didn't live closer, we could have one heck of a summer solstice party.lol. It makes me sad that people would stoop that low to do something so mean. I think I would have called the cops but then again, they don't always do anything about it.

That you handle it with humor is one way of handling it. I could not be happy living someplace where I was so harrassed. Can the local law enforcement or preacher not give you some advice.
