I would never consider myself poor if the only measuring stick I had was monetary value.

Hot damn, that was some serious profundity. Too often we get caught up in the monetary I did not even THINK to consider an out of the box answer like that.
You have my compliments.

I would say it would be when a person has no home at all. If they are living with someone that's making money, then it can be ok but not all the way. Barely making it I wouldn't say is poor but getting close.

I think a person is bordering on poor when it is the first week of June and they realize they don't have enough money to get enough groceries to last the rest of the month. I consider that poor, even though there are people worse off. As for me, I'm just lucky I got a check for a survey I did that will get me those groceries to last until the end of this month. : )

I'd say homeless, cause there are ways of making it in any of the other scenarios, and ways of improving it. Calling oneself poor seems a bit hopeless. I'd also say someone who's only income is welfare would qualify. (Note: Im not saying welfare is evil, just that if you are on it, you qualify to call yourself poor.)

Hmm...when your baby is hungry and you have to run to the local WIC office just to get a check for food for both you and your family.
When collectors are calling you 20x a day to hassle you about credit card payments that overdue.
When you've got your brother-in-law living with you just to cut down on mortgage payments.
I'm glad those days are over! :)
