Too close for comfort?

Recently, I've read how more people are getting injured or even dying as a result of trains colliding with cars. Most of the accidents happened because a driver tried to beat the train and ended up stranded on the tracks. And, I always wonder why would a person take such a risk? Where were they going so quickly that they couldn't simply wait an extra minute till the train passed? It's very sad for the families left behind. Have you ever had a close call with a train? Have you ever tried to beat a train to the railroad tracks?

I've always wondered the same thing about these type of accidents. Why on Earth would you try to beat a train?? I've just never understood what would possess someone to do something like this. I've never had a close call with a train and don't plan to. Anytime I see those lights flashing I always stop to make sure there is not one anywhere near by. If I see one coming even in the distance I stop.
