Official Tea at Work Place!! Is it RIGHT of the Staff or Employer's obligation?

Well, this is a different question from all who believe in ethics or human rights :) I have seen here the following situation: Staff at our workplace was a bit worried with the Boss regarding the office tea. The tea is given twice a day and quality is so poor, sometimes. Most of the members put their suggestion regarding the improvement in the stuff or change the alternate item instead of tea. But the problem still exists and the person deputed for tea making is of the view that as the Boss desires, he acts upon. Now the question is "Is it the RIGHT of staff to have the official entertainment or Not?". What do you suggest if you are the one of the staff member over here? :) Frankly, I have given up the habit of taking tea ;)

Hi Aliasad! I know you are bit surprised to see me hehehe Okay, what I have felt in your discussion is that staff is annoyed with the stuff provided by the office. I would add here that every organisation has its code of conduct likewise others. Staff matters are most important issues and must be resolved immediately. So, if you or other is being sufferred, let your higher offices know about the same. Hope that they will take some action and the things will be fine soon.

I would never mind since I don't drink tea or if I drink one, then I would bring my own tea. I would also try talking to the boss regarding the quality of the tea. If they serve one, then it would be something that everybody could swallow and if not, then they should never have bothered in the first place.

If an employee wishes to have a little relaxation and a cup of tea, the employer is obliged to allow the employee to have that tea, either by allowing to go out and have that tea or by providing good quality tea to the employee. It is a matter of right for the employee to have that tea not necessarily from the employer, but as far as the employer agrees to provide the tea it must be of good quality. Basically it is the right of the employee.

This is very difficult for someone from the USA to understand...there is no such thing here...LOL But, it would seem to me that if your employer were going to serve tea everyday like this...then it should be made to taste good for the employees...otherwise it is a waste of money for the employer and a waste of time for the employees... I do not feel that the employer has a right to expect you to continue to "take tea" when he does not take into consideration the way he is making it...with poor taste and quality..... Sorry, my friend...I do not know how to help...

At our office there are ice tea, juices, green tea, coffee. But the only privilege the employees allowed to take is unlimited cups of coffee. But of course the boss doesn't know that several employees are also taking the teas and the juices. With regards to rights...if it's a privilege given by the company then the employee has the right to it but if it's not allowed by the company then employee should not take it otherwise the company may find it a violation against the policy and the employee may face sanction or something.
