Lyrics or melody - what you look for in a song

What makes you like a song, melody or lyrics. Melody always attracts me first, I may even sing a song that has good melody, even though I don't like the lyrics? What is more important for you?

I like a melody that makes you want to move to the music and dance around. But, what I hate is lyrics with a lot of swearing, especially the "F" word over and over, stuff like that is just not necessary.

Yes some new songs in hindi also have offensive lyrics, then even if the melody is good you cannot sing them, but a good song should have the power to move you, even if it is only our toes or head

I look for both in a song, actually if a song has a really good tune half the time I do not even hear what they are singing about. Some of the slower songs I like for the words in it a lot of songs can make me cry from listening to the lyrics.

Yes, we have slow songs in hindi in the form of gazals - the lyrics are wonderful and then there are those fusion songs where I can't understand the words even after listening to them many times, but I still find myself humming them.

Usually a good melody or beat is the first thing I notice. Songs that have a good melody and beat but don't have substantial lyrics... those are fun songs but they burn out quick with me. Songs that have a good melody and good lyrics as well are usually the music that I buy and keep in my CD collection and never get old with me.

Yes i have many songs that will be evergreen for me. Each year I find 2 -5 songs to add to my collection and I always like listening to those songs.

I'm kind of strange this way, but I don't seperate the two. To me the song isn't about the lyrics or the melody, it's about the combination of all the instruments, voices, rhytmn and beat. I've noticed most people aren't that way, and that's ok... I've just never understood it.

Yes the two go together but I may accept poor lyrics if the melody is good but not vice versa. Most good songs have good melody as well as good lyrics, but sometimes we have to choose between the two.

I am more of a lyrics person myself. I'm a writer, so I really get into the lyrics of a song, and they tend to move me more than the actual melody.

That explains it - I am a musician therefore I am drawn to the melody.

The melody or beat is what first drives my interest in the song. Afterwords, I tend to listen to the lyrics.

If you hear a song from far the melody and beat will draw your attention, some of the melodies just haunt me for days and I ask my friends to tell me which song it was that I had heard. Then I go and get that song for my collection.

I like the song that has both good melody and lyrics. As when i chilling out i like to listen to music that is great, nice beats, rhythm, nicely sung, has good melody, lyrics. If one wants to dance to song must hjave good beat, rhythm. And if one is relaxing soulful melodious song does the trick. Cheers:)

Yes the mood and situation does make us choose differently, even the seasons affect my choice of songs.

I Want Both Lyrics And Melody In Songs That I Like.Although Melody Does Attrcat Me Towards Song At First But Afterwords If Lyrics Are Not Good I Discard the Song. For Me Both Are Equally Important.Although When Listening To Instrumental Songs I Prefer Lsitining the One With Good Melody.
