If you haven't heard this yet, it seems that all West Virginia schools are going to incorporate the video game "Dance Dance Revolution" (DDR) into their curriculum over the next two years. According to what I've read, they are starting with the 103 middle schools but will eventually reach all 765 schools. Apparently WV has one of the highest rates of child obesity in the US and this is an effort they are making to get kids moving.

We bought the (PS2) Eye Toy camera for our younger daughter two Christmases ago and it's another way that she gets active. You can't play Eye Toy sitting down -- you play with body movements. She waves, dances, bends and jumps while she's having fun... a nice way to exercise if you don't have to be focused on the drudgery of it :) We've all tried it and, believe me, you do feel like you've gotten a workout!
So what do you think of this move to incorporate video games like DDR in schools? Personally, I support anything that is going to make our young people healthier and more energetic. I think it's a unique approach to attack the obesity problem with something the kids enjoy! Now my daughter's hoping she can convince her Phys Ed teacher and principal to get DDR into our local high school! LOL

Yep! The Eye Toy is good too and not really expensive. Unfortunately, at least where I live, the games are hard to come by because it's not really popular. It was very popular in the UK a few years ago but hasn't seemed to catch on in North America. However, one of the newer games, Eye Toy Kinetic has been written up as providing a good workout and even has tools to keep track of progress, I believe. I think that's showing a positive outlook for video games, which do get a bad rap much of the time. I figure, if it can be hooked up to a game console, you have a better chance of getting a kid's attention ;)

Oh man! I'd be the first in line to buy one of those ROFL!!! In fact, I'd be in line to help with product ideas!! Ummmm.... "Dance Dance Do the Dishes"... "Groovin' to the Garbage"... "Tidy Up Tackle"... we could come up with a million of 'em! *grin*

That's not a bad idea and it could go well. That's really interesting and maybe it will work out really well.
Good luck to them about trying this type of problem. Good luck with that.
