Helping kids cope when friends move

My 5 year old son's best friend is moving out of state tomorrow. Today we're having a going away party for them. They've been a huge part of our lives for two years. Obviously my son is very upset he keeps asking why do they have to move, can we move too, why can't they just stay here... Even though he gets the same answers everytime he asks the questions he keeps asking them. They're only moving 4 hours away, so we're already discussing weekend visits and such, but as an adult, I know how easlily friends who move away can be forgotten. It starts with not being able to go visit, then the phone calls stop, then even emails. We've had a hard time meeting friends like them, it's really sad to see them go, but how do I reassure my son that we'll meet other friends just as good?
