Should we shut the rides down?

When we consider the 13 yr old girl in Kentucky who lost both of her feet when an amusement ride failed, it makes us question what should be done to prevent this kind of tragedy. What a high price to pay for such a brief thrill. Maybe it is time to shutdown such rides. Maybe they are too extreme. What do you think? Do you think Congress should be putting together a new law?

I don't think they really need to shut them down but I certainly think there needs to be federal control over inspections. I saw a report not to long ago where a ride was shut down in one state because it didn't meet safety requirements and the company just moved the same ride to another state.

There must be required inspections, but I am not familiar with what the requirements are. More than likely there is some element of human error. The investigation will tell.

Accidents happen anywhere, anytime, even crossing the street. So, let's make sure we don't cross streets, let's not drive anywhere either. Let's sit at home and do nothing but watch tv for the rest of our lives. Sounds fun doesn't it? You can't stop anything from happening, no matter how hard you try. Secondly, a lot of these accidents that happen at amusements parks are because of stupid people that don't want to follow ride regulations. They don't want to buckle up the right way, they want to try standing up or riding without safety mechanisms. You can't punish some people for the stupid people that want to be dumb. They know the risks but yet they do it and get hurt or killed anyway.

There is no need to shut down rides. Accidents happen it is a part of life. Every state has regulation regarding ride safety and parks daily test run and check for maintenance issues on ride. People just have to understand that everything in life is not 100% safe and accident s do happen, regardless of how well any ride, car, etc is maintained.
