Last night, we were at my daughter's grade 8 graduation...there were many awards being handed out to kids who strived to make themselves and their school a better place...there were some like my daughter who just went to school pretty much cause she had to (or to see her friends) My younger daughter said to me, i want to be one of those people (she is just finishing grade 4) so i said, you can start working now to do that... i had a lengthy chat with a teacher from my daughters school (he knows both girls) he even mentioned that my younger daughter is far more motivated than my older one... question...How do you motivate kids or yourself to do stuff you dont like to do...face it, everyone jumps at the chance to do things they like to do, but how about stuff that you dont like as much? Is motivation something you are born with or is it an aquired trait?

Jakes only a weee kid at the moment. I do encourage him/motivate him to try and learn new things, generally by showing him and pushing him. (not to hard) it's fun for both of us, I also give him rewards when he does something right. If he plays up (which he doesn't do badly or often) we buy him some sweets or an ice cream. not every time but to say "hey, if you continue to be good. you will get more acknowledgement" (couldn't think of a better word there) lol ~Joey

Five love languages a good read for anybody. - A good read for anybody.
I personally think that children, being young, needs direction. Exposing them to many things out there increases their awareness of the many choices available for them later in life. I don't think motivation is something that you are born with. But it also depends on the personality of each person. Personality plus is good book to start. It helps you recognise your strengths and weaknesses. Five love languages is also good because it helps you know what makes you tick. It is definitely easier to be motivated when you are surrounded with friends who are achievers and successful. It is better if these friends are the ones who stick by you through thick and thin. Try getting those books for starters. Might help you in more ways than the one i mentioned. Good luck! - Lyn
