I like to change my weekend trips to new destinations. I rater take roads less traveled, than famous places. What is your favorite location?

The road less taken...my hubby's favorite roads! We often take off for road trips on the weekends. I live on an island so there is only a couple of directions to take. My favorite place to drive are the old logging roads. It can only be done on weekends as when the trucks are in operation it is a little scary.

Unfortunately weekends are my busy time, but I do get a week off evrry six weeks. As we live on the coast, and I see the beach from my window at work, we usually head up country. At the moment my wife's elderly mother is not well, so that's where we head. It's a lovely little village in the mountains about ten hours drive. Communication there is difficult for me as their dialect is different to where I live, but they're all friendly and very nice.

I love to go away for the weekend. I choose to go to lovely beaches and areas of countryside for walking. This summer I would like to explore the sandy coves of Devon and Cornwall. I would like to see more of Dorset and its pretty villages with old thatched cottages. I would love to go to the Yorkshire Coast. I would like to walk some of the South West Coast Path and some of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. I would also like a few weekend trips overseas. I would love to go to Iceland and see the amazing landscape. It is expensive there so a long weekend would be just right. I would like to have weekends in the three capitals of the Baltic States. I like to see old buildings that have charm. So far I have had many weekend trips to beautiful Bruges in Belgium. It has many pretty canals and is known for its lace making. When I lived near to the English Channel trips there were easy. I caught a Eurostar train to Brussels and then a local train on to Bruges. Paris is another weekend destination that I like. It is lovely to go up the Eiffel Tower and see the Notre Dame. Agian it can be reached by Eurostar train.

It makes me willing to fly to Europe right now. I am leaving town in about 2 hours on car, I wish to have better train system here. Eurostar train is now on my list....:)

I haven't had a vacation or traveled out of my town except for work in years. I do love the beach, so I'd have to say my favorite destination is a beach. I don't like the commercialized beaches, but rather, the quieter ones, further away from all the tourist traps. I'm content to sit in front of the ocean for hours, bury my feet in the sand, and watch the waves curl onto the shore.
