During the summer a lot of people take vacations and I was wondering if anyone takes their pets along. I don't take my cats with me when I travel. Instead I have someone check in on them while I'm away.

Personally, I've never taken a pet traveling with me. But a friend of mine takes her dog with her everytime she goes on a trip. From what she tells me, it's a logistical nightmare to plan. Her dog (an English Bulldog) is prone to apnea, so she needs to travel in the mornings and evenings when the weather is cooler. Because of the size of the carrier, the dog needs to be checked through baggage which means that she's then handled by airlines staff. If the staff forgets to put her in the shade, she can overheat and die. Did I mention that this is a $2,000 dog? In my opinion, that's just too much stress when you're supposed to be on vacation to relax. I would much rather have a trusted friend or relative look in on our pets while we travel.
