Board Games

Thinking back on my love for board games, I was prompted to ask if any of you here on MyLot grew up playing them. During the seventies my family favorites were the game of Life and Payday. My children and I got much enjoyment from these games. When video games came out it was sad to see the decline of people playing board games. I think I would still like to play them today if I had someone to play them with.

When I was young, I enjoyed LIFE and Monopoly and countless others. In the 80s, I was part of the Trivial Persuit kick! Hubby and I made sure that our chilren had many board games growing up. I really enjoyed those endless hours playing games with our children! As adults, we still have friends over and play board games. Our favorite at present is Balderdash! Board games rule!

Yeah, crazynurse. Maybe if a law were passed that all families be required to have at least one night a week of playing board games together it would solve many of today's problems.

I seriously believe it would help! If parents sit and play games with their children they learn so much about the child. Family bonding occurs, you learn from each other..the list of positives goes on and on! I feel that we would have tighter families, which can only make for a 'tighter' society!

My favorite was Life, but others up there were Clue, Payday, Operation and Othello. My youngest (7) has a game we play called Dinopoly. It's just like Monoply, but the "real estate" is Dinosaurs instead of street names. The pieces are Dinosaur Fossils and tou buy "bones" or "museums" instead of houses and hotels. And they have explore and discover cards. It's pretty cute. We love playing it.

Aww--I'll play some games with you--LOL. I used to play Life, Monopoly, --do you remember Operation? I think kids today miss out on being able to play such games cause these used to make one thing a bit...not much thinking involved really with video games

You're right, pyewacket. There was a lot of communication going on when we played the board games. Many of the younger generation will never get to experience this.

As a family, we truly enjoyed playing scrabble together perhaps because apart from really being challengingly brain-stimulating, it's a very excitingly fun board game, which helpfully made us bond. I also vividly remember having tons of absolute fun happily playing monopoly with my siblings and cousins. If only I could play such board games as often as before, then I would surely have another excellent way of relaxing and having a blast.

What you say is true, acmepride. Although I have adapted to video games, I still find that they can be very stressful. There was not much stress involved in sitting down to enjoy your favorite board game.

i have really sentimental feelings for scrabble and monopoly because it was a family thing. The last time we had a family game night was when we played monopoly during my sons birthday 2 months ago. That was fun! :D

My favorite was Monopoly. I also liked Scrabble a lot, although I guess that's not really a board game (don't know). I also enjoyed Pictionary.

Wow, so many good ones over the years. Growing up, there was Monopoly, Clue, Yahtzee, scrabble. My husband and I make sure to have family game night at least once a week with my stepson. We've been doing that since he was little, and he's seventeen now. He looks forward to it. We also have friends over periodically and play things like Baulderdash or Pictionary, or Scattergories. It really makes a fun evening. My stepson likes to join in on those nights, too, and usually surprises our friends with some of the definitions he comes up with for Baulderdash!

Aah Game of life was one of our favorites too. Even Monopoly. Nowadays we don't play many board games only when we get together with my husbands family and they still have a few board games we like to play like Cranium, Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary and a few others.

Growing up my favorites were Life, and Monopoly. I especially liked Life because I liked getting married and putting the little peg kids in my car. LOL yes, I am weird. I still like board games. Now I love Trivial Persuit and Scrabble. I dont get to play often though.

AAHHH Board games.. I still love 'em. I like scrabble, monopoly, life, boggle, sorry, pay day.. even operation, yahtzee, trouble, headache, hi ho cherrio and so many more - My all time favorites are still monopoly, scrabble and boggle. I just love games but have nobody to play them with anymore.. husband got wrapped up in other things and children don't want to do anything outside of video games and computers and that's just sad.

I grew up with Monopoly, Scrabble, Concentration, Battleship, Stretego, A great game called Civil War, Password, Go To The Head Of the Class, and a dozen more I can't remember. This was mainly in the 60's and 70's. As kids, we played them often with family and neighbors. There are some I would like to play again, but like you say, there is no one to play with.

Yes, I also was raised playing board games and card games. We used to play Monopoly, Clue, Life, etc. I also loved Scattergories and would still play today if I had someone to play with. My kids and I still do a lot of board games as there are some great ones out. We found one that is called "Life on the Farm" and it is almost a Monopoly type game but deals with you having cows and money to win. We have set up until all hours of the night to play it and the kids love it!!

I used to love board games - I grew up playing loads! Just lately my family have started playing more board games - like trivial pursuits, monopoly, cluedo and scrabble! It is great fun for all and really helps the kids learn so many different things - In fact my 5 year old beat my partner and 13 year old at scrabble the other night , without any help! xxx

As a child I didn't care to much for boardgames. Partly because the only people I had to play with was my parents. These days my children and I play the game Sorry together a lot. We also like to play the game Brick Builder, which is a board game that you play using legos. You roll dice to see how many spaces you can move. On each space it tells you how many "bricks" you can pick up and what color if any. You try to get the "bricks" you need to put together your creation first.
