I wish I could type "ni hao, wo xian zai bu xi han yu" here. but I don't have Chinese IME in my computer. LOL. :P is there anything we can use to interact here? I want to improve my Chinese language, I've attended a Chinese course twice a week, but it seemed like I'm bad in memorizing the correct han zi. I always mistook one character for another. nice to meet you here. I hope we can interact more about Chinese language. thanks for bringing this discussion up so I notice that you are here! ^^

Thanks for your interest in Chinese.Chinese characters themselves are not difficult.I think what troubles you is that almost every character has many meanings. You have not a clear image of the character so you always mistake it.Don't try to remember all the meanings of a character.I will introduce you some websites to help you learn Chinese. www.xiaonei.com This's a website where Chinese college students including me keep in touch with each other but first you must register. If you wish,I will help you to register. QQ is a software for chatting. It's very popular in China. So happy to help you!^-^

hi xuliwei, thank you for your attention! ^_^ sorry for my late reply, but I have visited the website you mentioned. however, the website is fully in Chinese characters and I think I haven't been that advance yet in Chinese language. is there any 'English-Chinese' site where I can learn from? I heard about QQ from a discussion of one of my friends in myLot. seems like QQ is very exciting software. ^_^ for these moments I just keep trying to read some self learning books (added to my informal course), it seems like I often mistook one character for another because I haven't recognized the basic character (radical character). you know, sometimes when a character consisted of left and right part, I would remember the left and forget about the right part and vice versa. it was the same with upper and bottom part within a character. some seniors said that I should write and write more to memorize the characters better, one friend just told me that listening is the first part to remember the vocabulary and then it would be easier to memorize the writing part. but do you have any other advice / tips? thanks a lot ^^

I live in the United States! I thought those were the standard languages! Which language do you speak? What is meant by the standard language? I have heard of different languages having a common standard and an official, government type language, but I do not know much about Chinese habits and every day life. Only what I learned in school and read in books, that is all I know!

Sorry ,I mistook Mandarin for another word.I mean the Mandarin and I speak Mandarin. In China Mandarin is the most popular language.in fact Cantonese and Mandarin are the same kind of language.Just because most places have their own culture traditions and these differences lead to the differences in pronouncing and some grammar.I can tell you Mandarin is the standerd and offical (and many ands)language. If you come across a Chinese,I'm not sure if you can communicate with him in Cantonese but in Mandarin you must can do it.Cantonese is possiblly the second most popular language because many Cantonese songs are very popular with most Chinese youngers
