If you buy processors from the Philippines, i think intel is cheaper than amd right now, Intel E2140 is cheaper than amd athlon 64 3800. though intel e2140 runs at 1.8ghz compare to amd 3800 that runs at 2ghz, intel e2140 has 1mb cache and you can overclocked it up to 2.4ghz. furthermore it consumes less electricity than amd.

well let me tell you fraks i stay in india and here most people are freaky abut intel. well it is good but AMD is better than intel. but the problem lies in spares when you go for repair. i have and AMD pro. and ASUS motherboard and when my motherboard crashed i had no option but to change twice. no way to repair. and if you go for intel this problem will not bother you. there are ample of spares for intel pieces and its supporint mother boards

If you are after economy the best bet is the AMD as they are a lot cheaper than Intel, also there is very little difference in the speed you will notice unless you are into high level graphics such as top notch gaming or design packages. 1Gb RAM is recommended these days. One problem you may well come across if you are using an OEM version of XP is that you will not be able to port it across to what is effectively a new PC as the program is registered through the hardware and will not work if too much is replaced at any one time. You may well find you have to buy a retail version or a new OEM copy.
