When you have a friend request, do you try to guess who it will be?

There's a little game I've been playing lately where I try to guess who is requesting my friendship before I go look at my friend requests. When I see that little number up by "friends" on the top of my page, I spend a moment thinking who I have responded to, and why they would want to be my friend.
Do you do this too? And if so, how often are you accurate in your guesses? I figure right now I'm hitting about 80% accuracy or so! It's interesting how you just seem to know who is going to want to be your friend!

I often do this, I guess. My intuitions are hardly ever correct. I seem to be attracting more younger women from Asia mostly. My perceptions might be wrong. But I like your game. I think it helps strengthen your intuitive powers. We all have them, but they need development and exercise.

Hmm, that's interesting the type of people you attract! I seem to attract a lot of different types of people because of my varied interests, but if I had to guess a type I would say other parents of small children are the ones I attract most. That or people with health problems like mine.
I love playing those types of games actually! I really value my intuition, it's been very important in my life. So I exercise it often to keep it in good shape. =)

Hello lecanis!:-)
I have been doing it not since too long ago, just since a couple of weeks. I was not having many friend request earlier and it's just from two weeks now that their frequency have increased and I am always curious to guess who that might be. I figure that it must be someone who either responded to my discussion or from a discussion I responded to lately, but I am not as successful in guessing as you have been.
My guesses turn out to be just 60% correct as out of last 10 requests, I could only figure 6. But 2 out of rest of the 4 were out of blue, as neither they participated in my discussion nor could I found them in the discussions I responded to lately. So if they are not to be counted, then my guess would be 82.5% correct!=P

Haha, well I'm glad to hear that you are making more friends here! I think it's awesome to be able to have many friends and thus learn many different things from them! I really enjoy the variety of people I have met on mylot myself, and hope you have the same experience. =)
*nods* There's really nothing you can do about those out of the blue ones I guess. Those pretty much account for most of my guessing failures I think. =p

No I don't lol. I don't usually remember who I reply too since I replied to quite a few people each day. I would remember more the discussion if it is unique.
But quite often, it is almost the case that it is the first time I am seeing those who send me friend request.
I love making friends. Friends are cool. :D

I think if I were as active as you are, I wouldn't be able to play this guessing game either! It seems like you're everywhere all the time here! =p
I love making friends too! I have met so many wonderful people here on mylot, and have learned so many things from them already! I really value the time I have here, and the things that I have shared with all of my wonderful friends here!

Yes! I do this all the time, heehee. I dont guess as good as you though, it's about like 60% for me if I had to guess on my averages! lol. I like doing it, it's fun! Like a little mylot game..haha. I figured I was the only one that did it though!

Yeah, I usually do but even if Im unsucessful I still add them in the end. (only on myLot though). If it was like MSN then I would only added people i know. But 80% accuracy is good, way better than what im getting.

On other things I am much less likely to add people too. I have dealt with so much spam and junk on messengers and such. But on mylot it seems much less stressful dealing with such issues! So far I've only had a couple of people really spam me, and I've been here since January. Usually if I get a message from someone right after they friended me asking me to sign up for something, I send a message back right away letting them know if I am interested in such offers or not, and it takes care of the problem generally.
I think I'm just lucky, or that it has more to do with my style of participation than my intuition! But it does give me something to be excited about and have fun with! =P

When I get the periodic friend request I accept them as soon as I notice because I AM OH SO LONELY.
I have no clue who these people are because I don't recall ever speaking to them before, and I can't imagine why they'd want to add me as a friend for this reason. I find it hard to imagine them reading some insipid and facetious, maligned anti-perspective I use to either try and get people to really mean it when they try to be idealist or else just to be insane, and then taking my idiocy seriously (which happens quite a lot, sadly) and then somehow thinking I would be worthwhile to add as a friend.
I just don't see the reason for ever seriously reacting to anything anyone else says on the internet. I get really nasty complaints in my StumbleUpon inbox for my totally unsolicited rants against unsolicited webpages whenever I challenge the impulsiveness and overzealousness of my generation, or the "angry urban nerd" mentality of internet culture that seems to rest on scorn and spite yet remain so popular these days.
Or maybe it's just that I'm a jerk, which seems a bit odd given my serious interests. Think of me as that delightful Chris Ramsey character on the sadly-cancelled but wonderful show Port Charles.
Oh, and you can disregard this whole response, please.

Awww you poor thing! Howling at the moon all by yourself looking for your pack and everything! =p
I dunno, you sound kind of like some of the people I am friends with offline to me! Usually if people friend me here I think it's just because they like my style of writing, or because I come across as nice even when I'm really being disagreeable. It's some kind of fatal personality flaw I fear!
Anyway, thanks for responding, and sorry I didn't disregard it as requested, but it was too juicy not to bite!

I don't try to guess when I had new friend requests. When I first joined the site I did, but not so much anymore. Before I could usually pick it by people whose discussions I had responded to, but I now I usually respond to my friends discussions and not so much from different people.

I was in the habit of replying mostly to my friends for a while too, but I really like talking about a lot of different things, so now I look at my interests almost as much as posts from my friends. There are certain interests that I check out as soon as I see them pop up my sidebar, just because I enjoy them so much!
Thanks for sharing your mylot view though! It's always interesting to hear how other people enjoy this site. =)

I do the same thing! I'm usually right too, *laughs* I don't know..I'm getting a knack to be able to predict who'll friend request me..before they do it, now..it is rather entertaining to do that.

I think I am about 50% right on the guesses. I seem to attract younger users and its usually because I answered maybe one of their questions "under discussions with no responses" and then next minute I have a friend request. I have one sitting there right now and not sure how or why he's requesting it.. he is 18 years of age LOL

Hehe, you and your young people huh! I think I have friends in many age groups really, from 18 or so up to in their 60's! =)
I answer questions for new people or respond to their discussions too, and that often gets me a lot of friends. Sometimes I wind up having to delete them later if they leave mylot for many months, or if they simply prove themselves to be completely incompatible with me. But I've made some really great friends that way too, so I guess it works out in the end!

I've never tried to guess, which is good, because I wouldn't have gotten any of them right! I always go their profile and check them out to see if I can figure out why they requested to be a friend. Sometimes I never know! They don't seem to have replied to any of my discussions or vice versa. I don't even know how they got my name!

Wow, susieq223, I guess you just attract people randomly. You must just be so cool they can't resist you! =p
I know sometimes when I get those requests out of nowhere they are people who immediately send a message trying to get me to sign up for something. However, sometimes when I message someone and ask where they saw me, they will reference a response I made to a discussion they never even participated in, that they liked so much they just had to add me. So you never know, I guess.
I think the reason I don't get as many of those types of friend requests these days is because I'm not as active as I used to be.

Hello, lecanis,i always have new friend requests everyday, hoenstly,if you ask me to have a guess on the friend request,i will be wrong all the time because those people who send me the request may always be someone who i have never came across before in any discussions or comments. In fact,i have never try to guess who is sending me the request as i know i cannot guess it right anyway.

I get those occasionally too, easy888, the friend requests from people I have never even talked to! But not as often as you do apparently!
I don't think I have that many new friend requests, usually a couple a day if I've actually been on that day. So it's easier for me to play this guessing game! I see that as a good thing, since my friend list is so big already that it's not really manageable for me, but I don't want to miss out on the chance to make new friends either!
Thanks for sharing with me! =)

Hi Lecanis... I would say you have an intuitive mind, and 80% correct in your guess....that's great!
Well, in my case, sometimes I wonder when myLotter want me to add in their list when I couldn't recall that they took part in one of my discussions. Probably they could have seen my username in one of the responses that I made. I dont guess... what I do is just go to their profile to see where they are from, their age, and the discussions they posted.

Yep, I'm just that good I guess! *giggles*
I usually check out people's profiles as well if I can't figure out why they requested me. I have a lot of different interests, so often there will be really varied people wanted my friendship for different reasons. I consider myself really lucky that there have been so many people on mylot who have not only joined my friend's list, but become real friends to me as well! =)

Haha, I must just have some major intuition going on! Or it could just be that I only respond to a few discussions most days, so there aren't really many people who would be requesting my friendship (unless they are those out of the blue ones)!
Hehe, at least you sound like you are having a lot of fun with your blurting and cackling! =p

I remember feeling like that when I was really new! My first friend request came from a user that doesn't really come here anymore, but I remember being so excited to get it! =)
Now I have so many friends that it is hard to manage, but I am still really grateful when I get requests because it means that people are enjoying the things I say, and it gives me opportunities to meet great new people.
Welcome to mylot, and I hope you have as much fun here as I have had over the past few months! =)

Hello lecanis. I had never ever tried to second guess who will be the next one to request for my friendship. Majority of them are newbies or someone whom I never seen nor come across in any of my discussions.
What really perplexed me was the fact that after I accepted them, some of them will magically disappeared the following day. I currently have 5 new requests and all of them are not familiar to me.
