Now you'd better stick to WindowsXP SP2 which a stable version. Vista is still a "raw" product, but in a year most drivers will be updated, new software written and people will get used to a "newer and better" MS product. This is how it is with Microsoft. I can't say anything about UNIX-based OS, I'm no expert in this field, but as far I understand you meant MS OS.
