So, do your kids watch the news with you? Do you have conversations with them about the war on Terror, or do you try to shelterthem from that kind of news?

I live in Canada, so the news has a slightly different slant here. We do talk about the soldiers fighting, but mostly because my 3rd grandchild has a classmate in Afghanistan right now with the 'Princess Pats. We explained why they went there, and what they are trying to accomplish. other than that, No, we don't go into other details

I don't have children but my friend has a 6 year old and a 4 year old. The 6 year old knows about the war from school. He doesn't know much about it, but he does know that soliders die in battle and I've noticed he seems to feel so sorry for them and he is so young. I wouldn't shelter my kids from it because I think there are some things they need to know and some things that they will find out about one way or the other. It's just a matter of who you want to tell them and how you want them to find out. Parents can control the details of what they know to an extent, but sooner or later they will find out. I think they do learn more mature things in the early years than I did when I was in elementary school.
