My daughter is still little so the longest I will let her stay in the sun in 30 minutes to an hour at a time. And I'm always really careful about making sure she has lots of sunblock on. I'm so paranoid about getting her sunburnt. Last year she got sunburnt once and I felt terrible. So far so good this year. I take her swimming quite a bit and she's done really well so far. I think she is going to have her daddy's skin tone and tan really easily.
So what's the longest you will let your kids stay in out in the sun?

It's good you're protecting your daughter from the harmful rays of the sun. Skin cancer has become so prevalent, with the ozone layer becoming more depleted all the time. When my kids were young, I didn't have to worry about it too much. They played outside and got nice and tan without getting burnt.

We live on an island where the heat can get really hot on some days, I hardly let my kids out of the house! Every weekend we go down to the beach in the evening when the sun has cooled down and about to set. If it is a must that we do go outside then I would say that thirty minutes wuld be the maximum time we spend under the sun. Usually after five minutes we are running around seeking shade...lol..

My son is really fair, but that comes as no surprise since my husband and I are both very pale, too. I always put lots of sunblock on my son and myself if we are going to be outside for more than about five minutes. We still try to avoid the sun, though. We put his swimming pool in the shade, and I let him play in it for about thirty minutes at a time, and then we go inside. We do it two or three times a day sometimes, and we go on walks almost everyday. Our walks take about 45 minutes, but we usually have his canopy up then.

My son is turning 5 in July so I let him play out in the sun for about an hour at a time, sometimes a little longer. I make sure he has sunblock and wears a hat at all times. Most often we play in the shade with the odd game out in the sun. Because he is of dark skinned we tend not to burn easily but I still make sure that he has his sunscreen on and hat. When he was younger I was more protective of him and hardly stayed out in the sun at all. Usually its outdoors under a lot of shade, even if it meant putting up an umbrella for him to sit under lol.

Normally, I won't let my daughter stay in the sun for more than 30 minutes at a time, because she doesn't deal well with the heat. And, she's very fair skinned. I'm worried she'll get freckles on her face like I did when I was a kid. I was an outdoors baby. Any chance I could get, I'd go outdoors. I am afraid that my daughter will be the same way.
