Well I had my future son-in-law and daughter over today. We had loaned her money awhile back and she paid us back by buying mew gutters and trim for the house. The son-in-law did the work and I helped. He is a hell of a man, knows that he's doing and is good at it also. A perfectionist actually. Anyhow tearing off old trim he made a slight misjudgement. Hahahaha! Or he doesn't like my Lilies. As he was tearing off old trim a large piece of wood came falling down from the edge of the roof, BAMM!! Right into my Liliy bed in front. He broke off 2 groups of flowers and bent a few other that haven't bloomed. Oh man the look on his face staring at me as it hit the flowers was PRICELESS! Then his words, "I hadn't planned on that." I said I hope not becuase I sure have a lot more flowers for you to kill. Hahahaha! NO I didn't get mad. Upset but not mad as they will grow back. Just the look on his face was worth it all this evening. Well we got the trim replaced but no gutters up as he was called into work once again on hids day off. Ugghh!! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

It's great you have such a handy son-in-law, Grandpa Bob. I could imagine the look on his face as well when that board landed on your lilies knowing how much you love them so. lol I would of been upset as well but being lilies come back every year, I would of just brushed it off like you did. That's the thing about home repairs, there will always be some mishap that you just gotta laugh at at times.

As long as he just has 'accidents' with your perenninals, yup. lol That's why I tend to just stick with perenninals in my yard, they always bounce back no matter what it seems.

That is too funny! I love that when they make those faces when they know they screwed up hahahah! It is good that you didn't get upset and knew it was just a mistake. some people would have flipped out. he sounds like a real good guy and your daughter is a lucky lady! I am sure you look at him like a son as of now anyway, but it is like gaining a son and not losing a daughter. I am sure your lilies will grow back beautifully!

Yeah I can see someone getting really MAD about it. back when I drank if this had happened now.... I would have yelled and screamed seeing how much work I've put into them and the pride I have in their showiness for the neighborhood to see. But now days being sober it's like, Oh well. They'll be back next year. And so will the SIL. HAHAHA! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I got the vent screwed on last night. Don't want anymore squirrel skeletons up there. HAHAHA! When you say he feels bad becuase he isn't done I hope that doesn't mean not done with my Lilies? HAHAHAHA!!! And tell him don't worry about the flowers and that things really look a lot better than before also. He is too much of a perfectionist also. Sheesh!! Hahahaha gotta love him though. Thanks also once again. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM DADDY!!~

I guess accidents like that happen when you're doing building work. I suppose that's why the gardens are the last job on new-build homes lol. As you say, they'll grow back, so it's better they got squished than your s-i-l got hurt trying to stop the timber falling. My brother once installed a new TV aerial (antenna) on my house and with all the coming in and out to check the signal he stomped mud all over our carpet. My wife scolded him like a naughty child and I had to go to the bathroom to laugh so i didn't get the same treatment!

Yes he is a good man. The grandsons love him dearly also. I don't see any sense in getting mad at that incident. It wasn't intentional. (I hope) Besides they're only flowers. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

LOL! I can imagine the huge grin on your face as you were typing this out Grandpa Bob. I can't believe you didn't have your camera ready either LOL! It's nice though that you can laugh about it and not get mad. I did so love your remark back to him too LOL! It's nice to know that some people are willing and able to take things like this in stride. I know one lady who would have gone CRAZY had that happened to her LOL.

The rabbits love Lilies and eat the petals all the time. When a flower finally wilts I take the petals off and throw them on the lawn a few feet away. They stay away then as theres food close enough then. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well, I understand the disappointment in having some flowers ruined. My husband was chopping down a few very large branches off one of our gum trees. He miscalulated where the branch would fall. It collaspaed on my beautiful & very large lavender bush. I lost half it it. I love my English Lavender. It is taken years to gropw to this height. The branch also fell on our roof, & quite a number of tiles were broken. It's good that you have such a helpful son-in-law.

And you were just snickering up a storm as you were typing this weren't you? LOL Did your son in law have that guilty deer in the headlights look? I know I would have! In spite of the demise (or partial demise anyway) of your poor lilies, at least your son in law can make good on the rest of the rebuilding of the gutters and trim. And at least you have a wonderful sense of humor about it. I can just imagine the comments you will be making the next time he comes over to finish the job. LOL

Oh man he was the DERR for sure. He stared right at me with that headlight in the eyes look. My daughter even snickered. I was laffing so hard as I typed this. As we finished up I thrim I looked right at him saying, I did a great job. Thank me very much." Hahahaha! He won't live down killing a few of my lilies. Next time he comes over to "finish" the job, I am asking him if he means "finishing off my lilies or what? HAHAHA. Thanks for the response also. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I would have loved to see his face too Grandpa Bob! LOL! It would indeed be priceless. he he he! As an 'in-law' myself, I would never want to earn the dislike nor the ire of my in-laws, future or past. It was like planning something good to impress ones in-laws but it all gone haywire...how must have that felt! Glad you weren't too hard on him.

Oh Bob, That poor boy! I'm glad that you didn't get mad with him. My hubby did something kind of like that. He was working on putting a shower in my parents house, and hooked the plumbing up backwards. We went back the following week to fix it... and somehow hooked the HOT water up into the toilet. I STILL don't understand how he did it. Oh well, it's fixed now, and Mom and Dad are very happy with their shower. I'm sure you'll feel better about the lillies after that next big rain.

Well that must have been an interesting time of things. You are right, nothing to really get upset about as plants can be replaced but your future son-in-law can't..lol. I am sure the gutters will be up and functioning before the next big storm.

Asiatic Lilies - Son-in-laws broken Lily display. HAHA!!~
Well I tried a few times to upload a photo of my reddish orange Star lilies with no success. But my wife loves her lilies on the table. This one came through but the others wouldn't? Strange to say the least. These are the SIL's mishappenance. HAHAHA!! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Oh what a shame GrandpaBob, your poor precious lillies. Oh well, as you say, they'll grow back and new guttering is worth the pain. How I wish I could have someone do those kind of jobs at my house...and the garden as well of course. It's all a bit much for one person.

Ha, ha, ha...you're telling your son-in-law that you're not mad but here you are, sharing with us one of the priceless moment you have seen. I could only imagine his reaction. Maybe he has this tomato face and a gaping hole in his mouth. Better put on some band aid on some of your precious lilies. They sure need extra TLC from you, LOL.

My oldest geandson is going to be the gardener. He keeps waiting for me to give him more flowers etc to plant. He doesn't realize he HAS to wait till fall. He went to his dads Friday. My daughter asked him if he was going to tell his dad about his flowers growing and blooming. He said no. Mom asked why. "Dad will laff at me. So cute but sad at the same time. He loves plants and planting them. I think he just likes getting really dirty and this is a great excuse for doing so. HAHAHAHA! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

You're a very nice father in law, grandpa! most folks would have taken the chance to give their inlaws a hard time! haha, or maybe I'm watching too many horror father of the bride and meet the parents type of movies from Hollywood. It's sweet of your daughter and her hubby to pay you back in kind. You've got a great happy family going there!
