Please know that you're betta fish will not survive long, they are carnivorus, they will not eat the lily root if that is what you have been told and they need fresh water, and fresh air to breath!! They also prefer 79-82 degrees! Please help spread the word that keeping bettas in a peace lily vase (with lily) is torture to those poor little fish!

betta fish - Blue betta fish in a lilly bowl
Well I have to disagree with you on that. We have had a betta in a lilly bowl for over two years and it is doing just fine,my children also have them and have had for over a year each, now i know they dont eat the roots but mine do use them to semi hide in. I clean my bowl about every third week just so the fish can have a clean living inviroment.I guess im curious as to why you believe it is torture for them?

I don't know what you did to you fish, but I know many people who have had their bettas in plant vases very successfully. I have seen some bettas get bigger in plant vases than in 55 gallon fish tanks. Based on what you stated above, it sounds like you - or whomever this happened to - did not know how to take care of fish in general. You still need to feed you betta even though they are in the plant vase and you do still need the change or replaced with treated or bottled water every week (like you would do with a regular betta). Some bettas will eat the roots of a plant, but can not survive on them.
