I started a discussion awhile back about my green peppers. Now there's a problem. After they grew larger they aren't "green bell peppers" after all. They are yellow gypsy peppers. Doesn anyone know when the time is right to pick them? Waht coloring shou;ld they be? At what length is the right time for picking? Has anyone ever eaten Gypsy yellow peppers? These are new to me. Especially since I thought we'd bouth bell pepper plants. HAHA. Thanks in advance.

Wow Grandpa, seems you've grown a delicacy!!! I found this for you to read. It says that they eventually do turn red, that the yellow stage is this variety's 'green' stage! Interesting. Sounds like they will have a wonderful taste...perfect for cooking !!!

This is almost funny - I've bought Gypsy yellow peppers in the store and love the variety of color on a veggie tray but had never grown them - last week although a little late in the season I planted 4 variety of peppers including a yellow pepper plant. I figure I'll just go by the color when they turn the bright yellow I've seen or close I'll pick :)

Ummmm sounds delicious - I love frying peppers and onions and putting them on brats or sausages with a little brown mustard.

Grandpa Bob I love the bell pepper at all of it stages. but the riper they are the sweeter they are. So I like them fully ripe which is red or orange and yellow. There are so many to chose from when you wnt to grow your own. Here is a web that discusses the different varitiese and when to use them http://www.umext.maine.edu/onlinepubs/htmpubs/4181.htm

If they are like bell peppers but yellow, then just pick them when they turn color is all. I have red bell peppers in my garden that start out green then ripen to red. I've never heard of Gypsy yellow peppers b4. Try a garden website like www.bhg.com to do a search for em there. Hope this helps, Grandpa Bob. :-)

I can't tell you about picking them. I can only tell you about eating them! I tried to grow some bell peppers and wound up letting them shrivel on the vine because I didn't know when I should pick them!

I thought you pick them when they get as big as you want them to. Yellow peppers are great they are suppose to have more vitiamins in them then the green ones. I think you can do what ever you do with a green bell pepper. They are good in salads.

Let me tell you this. These are Gypsy Yellow peppers, They taste a LOT better than green bell peppers. Very much sweeter tasting. The skin is a lot softer, making it a lot easier to cut and cook. I had never even heard of Gypsy Peppers. Now next year I plan on buying a few more than the 2 we bought this year. very delicious peppers.
