How do you separate the egg from it's yolk?

When I need white of an egg, I break the egg into a small funnel. The white passes through the funnel leaving the yolk behind, but this method works for fresh eggs only. Do you have better method to suggest so that I can separate yolk easily for all eggs?

Similar to Sunshine4's response, I was a culinary arts major and the way we always separated the whites from the yolk was split the egg shell in half and slowly pass the yolk back and forth between the two eggs. Once you get the hang of it it's pretty simple and only takes a few alternates from each shell to completely get rid of the white and leave only the yolk.

The equipment you describe is useful, but you can actually buy what looks like a very fine meshed tea strainer, or even a small sieve, which will work very well. Always break the eggs one at a time or you could end up with a bit of yolk in with the white by accident and then the whole lot is spoiled.
When I do not have the equipment to hand I cut a small corner off a polythene food back, carefully place the white and yolk in there and wait for the white to trickle out. Messy but works in an emergency.

To separate the white and the yolk of an egg, I break the egg and just pour the white into a bowl, it's pretty easy that way and no need to use a funnel and then clean it.
Well this maybe a great solution for those who have a hard time separating the white from the yolk. As for other eggs, do you mean not fresh ones? The eggs that I buy are always fresh and if I buy eggs that are not fresh then I will just return it to the store and get my money back... But this never happened to me... Take care Ronimas.
