Working Clothes Tips

After not working for almost 3 years, I'm off to work again. I'm not so in-the-know with regards to working clothes anymore. First off, are tailored shorts already allowed for work? What about capri-length pants? Second, are work jackets a must (the type that goes with suits)? Can I do without them? I plan to apply for a financial analyst position so I want to make a good impression during my interview. If you have any other tips for working clothes, please share them here.
