Feeling Underappreciated? How do you bring yourself back up?

I guess we all go through time when we feel severely underappreciated. Maybe it's by our family, friends, co-workers, or partner. But you feel as though your hard work is for nothing, and people just aren't seeing the effort you put forth. Right now for me, it's at work. I feel like my hard work is not seen at all. It really makes me feel sad, since I put a lot of time and effort into my job. Now, how to I dig myself back out of this pity party ;-) Do you ever feel this way? How do you get your self-confidence back?

I've had that feeling a lot at work as well, both in my old job and in my current job. I think when I get to feeling that way, I usually try to do more at home, where I know that I will get more appreciation. Either that, or I have been known to cruise job sites, just looking at the options that are out there. I don't really consider leaving the job I'm in, I just see what there is, just in case something looks really really wonderful (or really really awful, which could make you feel even better--at least you don't have a super crappy job!).

That's so funny! It makes me think of that show "Dirty Jobs" on the discovery channel. But you are right. Maybe knowing there are other options out there would make me feel a little better. I'm marketable, I know I am :-)

I used to feel so bad whenever i had to face such a situation. When you put all your effort and no one realises it, it is very disturbing. But somehow, i grew out of being that way ! Now, after i do my best as much as possible , i feel satisfied and proud of myself and thats all that matters to me. I try not to get in trouble and be very careful in what i do. I mean, perform my job as best as I can. I realised that to a certain extent not many people appreciate us the way we expect. If i start thinking and being bothered about what others think, well, then i will be wasting my time and losing my confidence. I have to say, If it continues for a long time and i end being unsatisfied at my work, then i should be looking for a new job. It might not be easy but we should be happy with what we do and for us to be happy, we have to take the initiative, right?
