Is there such a thing as a "fat anorexic"?

Hi all... I have a question that I hope somebody can answer. I am an overweight woman, weighing at 170, in a 5'2" stature. I recently "discovered" on my own how to ignore my hunger pains and only eat one meal a day and basically starve myself the rest of the day. Initially I started thinking that this was a "self-control"victory for me as I tend to eat whenever my stomach dictates, which is quite often. The sense of having control over my hunger pains gives me a new sense of power over my body and excitement to envision myself getting thinner through this method. I have not been doing this very long, maybe a week, and I have not weighed myself to see if its working. In all honesty, I really never thought that this was a form of anorexia until I googled "overcoming hunger pains" and a whole bunch of anorexia sites came up. Is this a form of anorexia? Can a fat person like me actually become anorexic? I tried googling "a fat anorexic" to do research on my new found discovery but came up empty. Can somebody give me some insight? Thanks.

it would be better to spread your food out over the daytime..four to six little meals instead of one big whomping meal..i know ..i like a big german breakfast..(frustuck) and this hold me all day too but at night and the time of sleep i get too hungry to rest well. i don't think you have anorexia per se..but you do have an unhealthy eating and diet plan..but if it works for you.and you get your nutrients and vitamins and fluid intake..but how is starving your self making you a better person if you become a YO YO dieter..if you go off diets you will gain the weight back with interest..become depressed and start a vicious cycle ..all over again...and again and again..i know..i have done many diets too..all have failed..but good luck..it may work for you.

First let me tell you what you are doing is very dangerous to your body. Your body will go into starvation mode and anything you eat will be stored as fat in your body so that it can help protect itself. As for the disorder yes you can be fat and develop anorexia. It is hard to explain this but the simplest way is to tell you that anytime you stop eating and focus your entire thoughts to not eating or what to do if you eat can be an eating disorder. There are people in the hospitals that are over weight that have anorexia and bulimia. Anorexia is usally associtated with people who perceive themselves as fat and afraid of losing control over the amount of food they eat. It sounds to me like you do have a fear of losing control as you stated "self-control" in your discussion. I would talk to your doctor and come up with a safe way for you to lose weight if needed and let your doctor help track the steps for you.
