Human men and women have names to distinguish them one from the other. God is one and only, he doesn't need a name nor nobody can give him a name. He is "God". But as there exists a relationship between God and mankind, we can speak of God by the description of this relationship: 1. God is "The Lord". This is not a name, but the position of God above humanity and all creation. It refers to the obedience that we are due to give, but also remembers us that everything we are and have on this Earth, is only given as a liege, but belongs to God, the Lord. 2. God is "Our Father". And this relates not only to His creatorship, but to God's love and mercy for men in general, and for the individual believer in special. So you can call God "My Father" or "Daddy". Christianity also believes that a part of God -a person of the Trinity- has been born as man, like every human being and was given the name Jesus. In this context, only when talking about God in form of man, a name is given to God.

To the contrary God does have a name and His name has a meaning. His name Yahweh (Hebrew), Jehovah(English) means "He causes to become." That is very appropriate because he caused everything that is created to be. The name of His son, Jesus, means Jehovah is salvation. The true God Jehovah identifies Him from other so called gods. When my Hawaiian ancestors were approached by the missionaries about God. They asked, "what God?" They knew their gods, Pele, Lono etc. but thry wanted to know what was the name of the Christian God. Because of that the Hawaiian language Bible has Iehova (Hawaiian for Jehovah) thoughout.

Dear Mauial, I'm very glad that your Hawaiian ancestor learned to know the only true God, and by means of Christian missionaries. Thanks to the Lord for thosen who go and teach his word! As to the name "Jehova", "Yahve"... these were names that the Hebrews and their Jewish descendents gave to God in order to reclaim Him as their special God, the God of Israel, the God of Jacob, the God of Moses: "I Am Who I Am". When Jesus Christ, God and man, Son of Man and Son of God, spoke of God, he always used a single description: "Father in Heaven". The New Testament doesn't know any proper name of God but speaks of the Father, the Lord, God!

God has no name , but we give him names.... The Best name would be - KRISHNA. Krishna means "all atractive" . unless God is all atractive how can he be God.? A mn is important when he is attractive. is it not ? so God must be attractive, and attractive for all. Therefore, if God has any name, or if you want to give any name to God, only 'Krishna' can be given. you might ask . "why only krishna ?" The reason is- because He is all atractive. Krishna means all attractive. God has no name but by his qualities we give him names. If a man is very beautiful, we call him beautiful. If a man is intelligent, we call him 'wise' . So the name is given according to quality. Because God is all-attractive, the name Krishna can be can be applied only to him. It includes everything- all powerful, etc.. unless He is all-powerful, how can you be all attractive.Everything .He must be very beautiful. He must be very wise, He must be very powerful, He must be very famous. The name Christ is derived from the greek word Christos which in turn is derived from the sanskrit word Krista. Krista is the sanskrit name for Krishna. thank you very much
