Has your grandmother or mother-in-law's old fashioned ways ever caused your child to be injured? Sometimes grandmothers and mother-in-laws mean well, but many are from another generation, an era before child proof locks and baby proofing. Some even still use cod liver oil for everything from stomach upset to a runny nose! And, not all of these grandma kitchen wisdom solutions hold up to modern day parenting standards. Has your grandmother or old fashioned mother in law ever tried a folk remedy on your child that made them sick? Did their lack of modern parenting safety knowledge cause your child to get hurt? Please share.

Thankfully no...but when I was about 11 or so...I got thrown from a horse that I was told to stay off of and broke my right arm...we were not taken to the doctor with much frequency....so Mom had Grandpa look aat my arm....he said it was not broken...so I did not get taken to he doctor....well, until the next morning when Mom got up and my arm was swollen to three times it's normal size....the doctor sure chewed on her backside that day...hehehe

My folks never did anything like that, but when I was a paramedic we saw a lot of situations where parents put butter on a child's burn. DON"T PUT ANYTHING BUT STERILE WATER AND A LOOSE BANDAGE ON A BURN! Whatever you put on it, the ER nurses and techs have to clean off... burns are painful enough without "help".
