My Calico and Cat Litter

LittleBit giving her "cute" smile - My calico baby

Right now, my daughter is changing the cat litter in all four of the cat boxes. (I refuse to do it and made it one of her chores LOL) My darling Calico, LittleBit, happens to loves helping her out in this particular task. She will wait until the boxes are dumped, and then stand right next to whichever one is being filled up. As the litter is being poured into the box, LittleBit will literally pounce onto what is already in the box, throw it around, and at the same time try to attack the litter that is being poured in. I usually end up with a grey cat instead of a calico by the time everything is said and done. Oh...and she also tries to pull a bunch of the litter out of the cat box into a big pile on the floor and then starts playing in that too! Cat litter on bare feet does NOT feel very good. Please tell me that someone else out there has cats as crazy as mine! I'd hate to be the only one able to enjoy such "homey" entertainment! LOL

Stumpy My Cat - stumpy my cat
I don't have a crazy cat I have a very clever cat, he asks to go out when he wants to go to do his business, so I have never had to buy kitty litter, I am so lucky, I don'r know if he was trained to do this or just started doing it himself as he is a cat that came to me after his elderly owner passed away and after a couple of years looking after himself he adopted me when my cat passed away...its great not having to have kitty litter especially for me as I don't really have a lot of room for such things...

Your Stumpy has almost the same exact markings as my Vixie! Which, of course makes them gorgeous. LOL I have to have the litter boxes for my inside cats since I can't let them outside because of my stupid neighbor that likes to trap them. So I basically have no choice. You're lucky to be able to let yours out. And he sounds like a darling kitty. Thanks hon.

I'll take cats any day myself. Between the cats inside and the two dogs outside, mice and rats don't stand a chance.

I know that cat all too well, and even more so, a couple of dogs. First of all, let me tell you about my little dogs, Mini, half rat terrie and half mini pin, and my cocker spaniel, Gizmo. Mini actually litter box trained herself. Which that's very good, I'm proud of that, she did it by watching my chihuahua, Katey who uses the litter box, just like the cats do. However, Mini and Gizmo enjoy new litter, and will jump in as I'm pouring it, and sling it around. They also know what a cat litter bag is, and enjoy tearing it open, and playing in it all over the floor. I can't tell you how many times I've come home from work, and forgot that I left a bag of litter where they could get to it. Coming home from work, tired, and cleaning up a 25lb. bag of cat litter is not fun. As for my cats, there are a couple of them that like to play in it, and most of them enjoy using it, the very second new litter's in it. It's tiresome cleaning up after the little stinkers, but it's the only job that I hope I always have.

That's how I feel too. It's funny but I think every single cat box has been used since I posted this discussion. LOL I would love to see your dogs playing in the litter. I bet it's hilarious despite the mess that's left on the floor. Thanks sweetie.

I feel your pain..lol I have six wonderful cats, with six wonderful cat boxes throughout the house and each one has a trail or mound of litter layed out beside it, in such a fashion that if one isn't paying attention will step right on it. I don't know what it is that makes my cats so happy to play in a clean litter box, but they sure do love it. Don't matter if I have a covered one or not, litter still gets thrown out of it, for the human's stepping on pleasure. Not a very nice wake up call I may add.

Lol! As spoiled and pampered as my cats are, one would think I fed them those things, but alas I do not, so it very well could be their revenge for me not serving them such fine cuisine on a daily bases. But if this is to be true, than I will be teaching them how to find a job, so they can supply themselves with those fine delicacies that they so crave. lol!

The litter gets thrown out of our covered one too. It think it's a cat's way of paying us back for not feeding them steaks and prime rib every day of their lives. LOL

Can't say I've ever had a cat that was so enamored of their litter! I had one who preferred the box with just the plastic bag and no litter. And several have been eager to use the clean box, even if they had just used it before I cleaned it. It is as if there is a rule that no catbox goes unused for more than one minute.

I've got one that plays with water! By the time he's done, he's got water EVERYWHERE! Mostly on him! And he might even get a drink in there too! I'm sure some would help with the litter, but we just dump it & pour too quick, so they have to get in & use it quick like!

My cat Nemo loves to do that. He will take his paw and splash the water all over the dining room floor, which has no carpet on it. It's not fun skating across the floor in the middle of the night from the floor being wet. LOL

He's actually named after "Finding Nemo". He's an orange tabby so I thought it would be cute to give him the name because he has orange and white stripes just like Nemo in the movie. LOL

So, is Nemo named after "Little Nemo," "Finding Nemo," or Captain Nemo? I know it's be the first or the last if I named one Nemo.

It's cute for the cat to behave like that, but after that your daughter must ensure she's clean. If not the dirt will transfer to you and your family members and you wouldn't want to get contracted with diseases of the unknown. I am just saying this as a precaution. I've heard that cats have a type of bacteria or something that is dangerous to human beings, especially to pregnant ladies.

Thank you very much for your concern and advice hon. My daughter always washes her hands afterward with antibacterial soap to be safe. I have also heard about the bacteria that cats carry in their droppings and urine, and I always take the proper safety precautions. Thanks again.

lol That is just too funny, Kat. No, I've never had a cat do that b4 but did have a cat once that would sit there patiently while I cleaned out the box and add more litter then jump in, scatter it eeeeeeeeeeverywhere and promptly leave a deposit b4 more scattering to cover it up. -rolls eyes- I had to sweep the floor in a 10' circle around the litter box when he was finished.

It's amazing how much fun they have just playing in the stuff, before and after the deposits. It's funny to watch my other cats, because they sit like vultures until the litter is changed or scooped, and then LOOK OUT! It's a major stampede to see who can poop in it first.

OMG--Little Bit does look like she's smiling...little devil!! And tell me about it...whenever I walk on the darlings litter I feel like I just step on shards of broken glass, and my feet always seem to walk on the sharpest pieces---Well my darling Pyewacket does this little "thing"--I put nice fresh litter in the box, and he goes in...digging, digging digging..it's a wonder he doesn't dig a hole not only in the litter box, but in the floor and plops in to visit the neighbors downstairs..and while he's digging the litter shoots all over the place...honestly--I wish I could teach him how to sweep up after himself!!

My calico, let's us know when she wants her box cleaned out. She stands right in front of it and meows until it drives us crazy. Once we clean it out she goes right in and arranges it to her liking. She doesn't use it, she just arranges it. It really sounds like she is building a condo. Her box is covered so we can't see what she is doing but I swear she has a hammer and saw in there! And of course when she is done, she leaves a nice trail of cat litter on the floor for me to step on!

Well, she has to have it just right so it won't hurt her delicate little paws, right? LOL Every once in a while, LittleBit will lay in the clean cat litter before any of the others can get to it to do their business. She looks like she is laying on the most comfortable couch ever.

Cats are so nutty! My cat Misu, let's us know whenever she wants her litter cleaned. She'll tap on you like a 3 yr old toddler until you follow her upstairs and into her room (office/storage/cat room) and lead you to the litter. Then she'll stand by and supervise and make sure you get every last bit out and put new litter in. Then you have to turn around so she can go in and use it. She won't use the potty if anyone is watching, if you happen to cat her in the act she puts her head down and gets embarassed, lol. We've tried regular litter boxes when we travel but she'll only use the covered up kind. Crazy kitty!

My cat doesn't attack the litter but she loves having the litter changed that she uses the litter box before I even poor more litter in it. Its gross and a pain in the tooshie. I scoop once a day and completely change it every other day, so this happens often. Darned cats, but ya got to love them.

Thanks for the laugh! My cats aren't quite that entertaining with the litter and I'm grateful. Since I sweep and mop when I change boxes, I would not be thrilled if they kicked a bunch out on the floor. Mine tend to have varying habits but usually at least one of them will sit quietly watching me do all of the work and then promptly jump in the first clean box and go. They seem to have an instinct of when I'm going to change the boxes and they will hold it until I get around to changing the box. Now, if Marshmallow doesn't like his box, he goes and pees on the kitchen floor to let me know he isn't happy. I know what you mean about cat litter on bare feet that's why I wear flip flops around the house. The only bad time is when a piece of litter gets caught in my shoe. That can hurt!

I know this is from 4 weeks ago but I am responding anyway..LOL..I don't have kittys now but when I did they were absolute noodleheads..Wonder where they got that from... Anyway..I would no more put the clean litter in and someone would jump in and go to the bathroom..Honest to Pete, couldn't they have waited 5 minutes. Of course not, so there I am scooping the poop..Shrek, Feona, and Elle Mae were there names..Nightmare kittys I tell you, Nightmare..just kidding..If I ever do, and probably won't, ever get another kitty, because this is a doggy house, I will name her Pudgemuffin..What do you think?..I could name her Katlady after you, if that would be okay? Oh, sure, you liked Pudgemuffin until I mentioned Katlady...Good grief...I had a calico named Twinkie, and a white cat named jellybean, and another white cat named C. C. for Christmas Candy. Her and Jellybean were sisters..We got her at Christmas. Hang on, there is a fly on my screen...Whack!!!! with the flyswatter and I am up and typing away.... I should end this and save some for later..bye for now..

ROFL! You read my mind...I love the name Pudgemuffin though, almost as much as Katlady, so either one would make me happy. As if I have a say in the matter. Hahahah! Wait a minute...Pudgemuffin would be an awesome name for a roly poly bulldog, or even a pug (but I think you would add insult AND injury if you named the dog Katlady...I just don't think it would go over too well LOL). Here's the names for all of my cats...warning: there are 12! LittleBit, Vixie, Prance, Angel, Nemo, Fluffy, Missy (aka Little Miss Thang), Midnight, Muffin, Fraidy Cat, Nipper, and Little One. And the dogs are Buddy and Snuggles. I think I have all of their pictures in my profile if you want to see them. Needless to say, my house is a zoo! LOL

LOL! Ok...I've snapped out of it for the time being. Never know when my brain will revert back to it's usual crazy thoughts. I had a hamster that liked to jump out of our hands. When he did it the first time, I thought he was a goner, until I blew on him a few times and he came back to life. That decided our name for him: Crash. He was hilarious. Especially when he was in the ball. Then he would chase the cats all over the place. LOL

Those are very cute names. My, you have a housefull. I bet it is fun though. My son wants a bulldog but unfortunately he would not name it Pudgemuffin. Now if she was mine then he would not have a say in the matter. He named our Boxer, Halo. I guess it is a video game. I think of Heaven my self. (Halo round the head)..Are you still with me..As I was saying, what was I saying? LOL..Where is my brain when I need it...Okay. I can't remember what, oh yeah, I just remembered..My daughter had a hampster and I named him Peabody..She hated it..She took him to show and tell and would not tell the kids his name...LOL..He fell out of his cage and dropped about 4 feet to the ground..Nope he didn't die..I was sure his little life was over..Actually now that I think about it, I think my cat ate him..not kidding..darn cat...I think it was Jellybean..Jellybean ate Peabody..Maybe he made fun of her name, and she made fun of his name and..Ya never know. Talk at you later. And no I can't name a dog, Katlady. So snap out of it..
