Why do you think some people are so thin skinned?

One of my former friends, who lives in Canada, used to be so thin skinned that I could barely speak to her, without having her think that I was making accusations. Every time we talked she would spend hours defending herself to anything I said. For instance, if I'd seen something on the news about bad moms and wanted to tell her about it, she would automatically assume that I was saying she was a bad mom. As if I were speaking around about way to insinuate something bad about her. It did not end well. After awhile I just got tired of having to over explain myself, so we broke off our friendship. But, I know she's not the only thin skin person on the planet. These people are like dealing with a peeled nerve. Very sensitive folks! Do you have friends like that, that is, people that are so thin skinned and think you're accusing them of things that you never meant to say?

What are you trying to say??? What did I ever do to deserve this kind of treatment from you??? JUST KIDDING!!! I think it is because the assume that the whole world revolves around them....so therefore, you must be talking about them...does that make sense??? That would be my best guess...Hope I did not offend you..with my warped sense of humor....LOL

Being "thin skinned" is all about experience, maybe something in their life experience has caused them to be that way. something that has nothing to do with a person or even a light hearted comment can be misinterpreted to mean something else. As an example a family member is a big tease and they do the same thing over and over again (even after being asked to stop) until people get heartily sick of them and tell them so and their reaction is to say things like "you're too sensitive" or "can't you take a joke". We are all good at seeing things from our point of view, but not so good at seeing them from someone else's.

I have a friend like that. Everytime I talk to her she assumes that since I hadn't talked to her for a week or so that I was mad at her. She always asks if I'm mad at her and I say no. Then we end up getting into an argument. Some people are insecure and sensitive. You were right to break off the friendship. No reason for you to have to suffer because of her insecurities.
