Breastmilk vs Formula

I was interested in finding out what people opinions on feeding infants are around here. We've all heard the addage that "breast is best" but what do you really think? With my first child she would have nothing to do with breastmilk. It didn't matter how we presented it to her, she would not have anything to do with it. I changed my diet, I did everything that I could to encourage her to nurse. After 3 weeks, I gave up. In general its my personal beliefe that if you are able to breast feed, you should. It's whats best for your child. I think formula should not be readily available to the public. I think you should have to have a perscription for it.

I haven't considered that approach before myself (formula by prescription) but now that you've mentioned it; it sounds like a great idea. Obviously when a mother can not nurse, the baby needs formula. But most women can nurse & just don't want to or know enough to know how important it is. I don't think women should be made to feel bad in situations like yours, you went above & beyond to try and it didn't work for you & your child. But women who just choose not to, should at the very least understand all of the ramifications of that choice.
