Philippines

I was in a rush in shopping for a wedding gift for a friend. And while waiting inl ine at the checkout counter, someone comes up to you and says - "Can I go first since I've only one items?". Of course, because I'm a peaceful person, I told her that it's okey by me, but pls. also ask all these people behind me. And yes, you would really guess, what happened, She just pay her bill and left without saying a word. Grr.. That woman! I can't face all those apprciative looks of the people behind me.

I have been in this kind of situatuin before as well. I will ask the people who are in line behind me if they would mind if this individual can cut in line instead of waiting like everyone else. Personally, I don't care if they only have one item or two if it was just me in line but I do think that it is rude to assume that just because a person has less then the rest of the people standing in line that they should go first. Does that mean that we should line up by how many items we have in our carts and if someone comes up who has less they should get to jump ahead of everyone else?

Yes, it really rude for her to act like that. I hate people with such behavior.

That woman placed you in a bad position if you ask me. While I feel bad for someone who only has one or two items I don't feel it is my right to allow someone to cut to the head of the line without them asking everyone else who is behind me. It was rude and inconsiderate of her to just assume that the rest of the people in line wouldn't mind. And then to leave you to get the dirty looks and comments makes it even worse. I have to admit that if there are people behind me when someone asks I will tell them no and that they should go to the end of the line like everyone else. Its the only fair thing to do.

I surely hate to wait before the toilet and watch the lucky one who has the golden chance is fiddleing with his zip or some idiocracy like that .

Of course, that too gets me irritated. There was such time that I'm next with a pregnant lady and it takes her for about 10 minutes inside in the toilet, God I should have leave that line and wait inline for another stall.

I rarely allow anyone ahead of me unless it is someone who is disbled or a senior citizen who is having trouble walking. I think people assume that everyone else is not in as much of a hurry as they are. We all have busy lives and everyone should wait their turn regardless of how many or few items they need to check out. And, of course, they are always the least appreciative when you do let them ahead of you.

I think disable or a senior citizen would be an exemption. I salute to you for that.

i hate waiting in line during enrollement. my school has this really obsolete way of registration and enrollment, something that people have been complaining about. its has gotten so worse, that one time i started to queue at 7 am and reached the end of the line at 3 pm. i did not have lunch and was feeling very sorry for the day wasted waiting in line. i even wrote a blog entry about it, because it was THAT disturbing.

I can relate to that. Waiting inline during enrollment and the worst part was during the last-two-day payment of the tuition fee every midterms and finals. Much even worse when you're falling in-line and you saw some students getting the payments from their friends so their friends would not getting in-line anymore. Oh! People.

I'm pretty patient about standing in lines. I hate it in the bank though, for some reason! LOL I think it's really rude to ask to cut, I never do that. I've had people offer, like if I only have one or two items and I'm in line behind someone with a lot, and they say, "why don't you go ahead" and that's great, I'll do it then. And I sometimes offer if I have a lot and the person behind me in line only has one or two things. But I would never just go up to someone and ask if I could cut in front of them. If someone did that to me, I'd think it rude, but if no one was behind me I'd probably let them just because I'm very non confrontational and it would make me uncomfortable. But if there was a line behind me, I'd definitely say no! I mean, no one likes to stand in lines, but that's life, and no one is entitled to jump ahead just because they feel like it!

I agree. Falling inline in a bank also gets me irritated sometimes, specially when that certain bank don't have any priority number and you need to wait and stand in-line for about half to an hour to get their service.

i don't usually shop often except for groceries... so the only place that i get really impatient is queueing at the grocery store... and yes, i really hate it when someone just cut the line like that just because he/she has only few items... i think he/she still have queue like everybody else or use the express checkout... and yes, she can't just assume that the people behind you will not mind she is cutting the line... and to just go away like that without saying anything is really really very rude of her... i would never dare to do that...

These are people who are just concerned about themselves. Last week I too had a same problem, but that was in a clinic where everyone was waiting to see the Doctor.

Walmart is my #1 place to hate standing in line. They have 20 checkouts and only 4 or 5 will be open. You end up waiting forever. If I'm by myself somewhere and I have alot of stuff, if someone is behind me with just a few items, I will let them in front of me. Especially the grocery store.

I suspect I would have felt the same way as you. The other day I was at the grocery store when the wrong price rang up for an item. So we had to wait for a price check. I felt so bad for the people behind me, that I turned and appologized to them for the wait. They were very understanding. thankfully. I'm usually pretty patient in lines at stores. Except at a convenince store like a gas station. Because there it's usually the cashier who's off doing something else. On the phone, in the back...what ever. I get very impatient at that.

That really reminds me of one 24-hour convenience store near in my place. It really get me irritated that the cashier, who was very busy chatting with her friends, ignoring me for about 5 minutes. That really get to my nerve.

I can't believe with others behind you that she would ask that but then that is just me I guess since I would never do that. I am usally ok in lines except at a fast food drive thru. I hate when it takes forever and I could have gone inside and been out faster.

i hate to wait in line during rush hour in train stations here in our city. lines can get several meters which is a pain. you know the feeling being exhausted while waiting for your turn to pay for the fare. i do not buy stored value cards because i seldom ride the train anyway.

I hate standing in any kind of line, but it seems fast food joints are the worst. Indifferent clerks, lousy food, filthy whiote trash young'uns running around. Fun!

Wow. WHat a jerk. You were humiliated because she didn't even respect your wishes to ask the people behind, then you took the blame for being too kind. That was most annoying, really. If that happened to me, I would have grabbed her arms and thrust her at the back of the line.

i can relate to that. sometimes we can be so mistakenly kind to the rudest of them. if i was in that situation such as yours, i'd say - 'we're here falling in line, and if you're in hurry, we also are'. if you had so much wanted to go in first, you shouda checked in first too, now there's a rule in good manners to wait for your turn, so you have to wait in line until your turn comes.' now you might get a nasty look from that rude person because of your lecture, but you will earn respect from the others who were patient enough to stand in the queue. hopefully too she'll learn that there will always be others who will stand up for her meanness and bad attitude.

Definately, in my opinion, there's no line worst than the fast food restaurant's line. I hate those days when you go have your lunch, and of course, it's LUNCH HOUR, so every damn person that works nearby the restaurant goes there, and the fast food becomes slow food. It's even worse when the clerks are so busy that, trying to remove the crowd from the counter say, after you already paid them "You can wait for your order at the table, we'll bring it to you when it's ready, and they let you sit there waiting for half an hour.
