My husband took my daughter to get her ears pierced on her 3rd birthday. We hadn't talked about it, so it was a surprise for me. At first I was a little upset that I didn't get to take her (our only daughter), but when I saw how proud he was of thinking of it all on his own, I got over it. She loves to change her earrings and we have never had any problems with them being sore.

I have 3 daughters and didn't pierce any of them until they were 10 years old so they could take care of them themselves. I figured I had to feed them, dress them and diaper them I wasn't going to add one more task to my day*L* At that age it was a special treat for them something they were excited about and each one knew that it was like the right of passage to double digits.

My niece had her ears pierced not long ago - i think it was for her 4th birthday, my other niece had hers done near 3 i think.
Personally i think it shouldn't be done until the child can ask for it coz it seems a little unfair to the child if you do it coz it's cute - it does hurt & they're only little so better to do it when they want, not when you want i think!

With both of my girls we peirced their ears one week after they were born. I know it seems too young, but in our culture it is what is best. When they are babies they can feel a sting for a minute or so, but thats it and they won't be able to keep touching it. The less they touch it the less likely hood of an infection:) My girls both enjoy wearing their earings! In fact every year for the past two years I have changed my 5 year olds earings because sge wants to choose the one she likes...lol

I din't get my daughters ears pierced until she was 10 and could handle the responsibility of taking care of them herself. We also have a 4 year old daughter who has no interest in getting hers pierced, but she does want her nose done like mommy's. LOL Not happening either!

My grand daughter started asking to have her ears pirced as soon as she could talk. My daughter told her as soon as she used the potty like a big girl they would go get it done. She never had one accident since that day. She didnt cry when they piereced her ears either she just went ohhhhh. She had just turned 2.
