Toddlers with eczema

My little two year old has eczema and it is really sad to see him scratching away, having to clip his nails all the time, and applying hydrocortizone cream and lotion all the time. I guess that is about all I can do, but I still feel bad for him because sometimes it gets really red and starts bleeding. I was wondering if anyone else is dealing with this problem and has any thoughts about it.

Yes, definantly...Just make sure that you wash all clothes, bedding, towels etc...in sensitive powder, no scents, dyes etc I use OMO Sensitive (I dont know if you can get that ??). Also you can buy sensitive skin soaps and shampoos at the Pharmacy. I have done this and applied the creams and it has cleared up. Good Luck with it, because I know how bad it can get.

I didn't think about the sensitive powder and stuff. I guess I could give it a try because I do his laundry seperate from all the other laundry. Thanks for the advice. I remember to lotion him most of the time, but to get the daycare to remember and his father is a different story.

He's alright again but when it gets bad, it does drive him nutz, not that I blame him!

We use Dream Cream from www.lush.com on my nieces. It looks expensive but a small dab covers a lot of skin. It lasts forever. It's all natural, organic, and not tested on animals. It really does work wonders too. I used it on sun burns, cooking burns, scabs, cuts, scratches, etc.

My middle son use to have really bad eczema. His doctor recommend Aquaphor or Eucerin. Both are creams, and worked very well for us. I was also told to use a more gentle laundry soap. Good luck!

I've heard of Eucerin but haven't tried it. Maybe I'll consider getting some later. Thanks.

My 12 month old has been having the same problems since not too long after birth, the Dr said it could have had something to do with the fact she was over cooked :) I use Johnson's soap free baby washes & stuff like that, i have a little tup of ointment (a very expensive tup too) that my Mum bought becuase it has an Iodine base which is apparently very good for Eczema, it seems to be helping quite a bit but on occasions she does the same with the scratching until she bleeds & stuff like that. The ointment is called Robertson's - it's a medicated skin repaire treatment & has been recommended so i thought it couldn't hurt to try so if you can find it, you should give it a shot!

I'll see if I can find the ointment - thanks!
