Pawning jewelry and other valuables

When I was younger, my uncle would pawn valuable stuff from my grandmother's house. He would not show up for a few days. I overheard one conversation that he was already involved in drugs. My grandmother would ask for my father's help to be able to trace where my uncle pawned my grandmother's things. I began to think that it was bad to pawn. Whenever I would pass by pawnshops, I feel that it was a sin to go there and pawn stuff. A few years later, my sister pawned her earrings to be able to pay for something that she bought. I was shocked when she brought me along to pawn it. I felt ashamed. She told me that there was nothing wrong about it. Pawnshops are there to help you when you need emergency cash. How about you guys? Do you pawn your jewelries? Or any valuable things?

i have never pawned anything myself, but i can certainly understand why people do it. by going to a pawn shop, you can get that quick cash, and have the chance of getting your stuff back as well as the pawn shop owner will keep your item for a limited time before selling it on. many people get into a position where they need that extra money, but can't get a quick loan or something, and this is why they got to pawn shops.

I think that its ok to pawn things so long as you own them. And if there is no one that you can really ask for financial help, I think pawning should be the last option. Thanks for you post.
