I've made banana bread before. I have never heard of cooking bananas other than in baked goods. I have heard of plantains that look like little bananas but are supposed to be cooked.

Cooking bananas with coconut milk is kind of like a staple here on the island of Saipan and is very popular in our culture. We also make bannana donuts but rarely do we make banna bread:)

That's very interesting. Can I ask you a question? Do you get alot of mosquito bites? I read somewhere once that something in bananas will attracts mosquitos to you if you eat alot of them. I have always wondered if it is true.

banana - Simple Recipe for banana-q:
1. Preheat oil in Frying pan.
2. Peel bananas and add them into hot oil.
3. Add brown sugar. Make sure the sugar sticks to the banana (this may be tricky)
4. Serve on bar-b-q sticks with about 2 bananas per stick.
At home, we cook bananas in different ways. If we don't eat it as is when it's ripe, we usually boil it or fry it (the plantain variety). Here's a recipe I found on the net. This is called BANANA-Q: 1. Preheat oil in Frying pan. 2. Peel bananas and add them into hot oil. 3. Add brown sugar. Make sure the sugar sticks to the banana (this may be tricky) 4. Serve on bar-b-q sticks with about 2 bananas per stick.

I love Pisang Goreng (Banana Fritters) Serve it hot and make extra. With this recipe, you always want more! 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 2 tablespoons granulated sugar 1/4 tablespoon vanilla powder 1/2 cup milk 1 egg 2 tablespoons butter, melted 1 teaspoon rum flavoring 4 ripe bananas, sliced 2 cups oil for frying In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar and vanilla powder. Make a well in the center, and pour in milk, egg, melted butter and rum flavoring. Mix until smooth. Fold in banana slices until evenly coated. Heat oil in a wok or deep-fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Drop banana mixture by tablespoon into hot oil. Fry until golden brown and crispy, 10 to 15 minutes. Remove bananas from oil, and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.

Oh this is interesting! I've never come across any banana dishes before - not unless you count banana split as one of them.:P I usually eat the fruit raw. Just pluck it and gobble it up in a few mouth-fulls.:P

Just slice them and place them into a saucer pan and pour at least two cans of coconut milk and about a teaspoon of salt. You just let it simmer for approximately 20mins. It is a easy and yummy snack that I know you would enjoy

"saba" - banana used for cooking
We have three kinds of banana here in my country the two is not good if you cook it is better to eat the fruit it self. but we have here what we called "saba" the one we really used for cooking t is more fat and short compared to the regular banana. We cooked it fry with brown sugar (bananaque) on it and sometimes we coated it with a flour wrapper (toron) we have lots of cooking in a banana here.

That sounds good. The only way I have cooked bananas has been in banana nut bread or banana cream pie. I have had fried plaintains, but didn't really care for them. Do you boil the bananas in the milk? Do you slice them first?

Hey. I like to eat my bananas either in a smoothie or a banana cake or banana loaf, I cant seem to eat the banana straight out without getting a sore guts from them... Never tried cooking them either, I know in some take away shops in NZ, they batter and deep fry them...

Here in the Philippines we really have the variety of banana for cooking, we call it SABA, it could be the plantain variety. here's a very simple recipe that is well loved by my kids. fry the bananas (cut in half lengthwise) in a pan with vegetable oil, dont over cook. Sauce: melt 1/2 bar of anchor butter in a pan, add 1/2 cup of white sugar, stir constantly until sugar is melted, then add 1 small can of all purpose cream, stir until smoothly thick and your done. Pour it over your fried banana.

I like bananas best when they aren't cooked. Like in banana pudding, it is awesome. But my favorite banana treat would be banana ice cream. First you freeze and thaw the bananas to make them mushy. Then you put them in a food processer and mix it with lemon juice(to keep it from turning brown) light corn syrup and heavy cream. Take it out, put it in an ice cream maker and churn it till its done. It the best banana treat, in my opinion.
