Whenever you buy something from the supermarket especially food, do you always make it a habit to check the expiry date? As for me, yes I do! I check the expiry date for each and every item that I am going to buy especially food before I put it into my trolley. It happened to me few years back, where I bought a pack of Milo which were expired. On my way home, I opened the canned drink and when I wanted to drink it, I noticed the awful smell. Lucky that I didn't drink it yet.
How about you? Do you check the expiry date before buying the item? Do you think it is a hassle to do so and not a very important matter to you?

It really depends on what I am buying! If they are fresh stuff or juices, then I would definitely check the dates. But if they are some chips or cereals or things like that, I wouldn't bother to check the dates (sometimes I remember but most of the times I just grab and run - I hate grocery shopping). I think it has to deal with the packaging too! The fresh usually has a more simple packaging which I can see from the outlook that they won't last very long and that's why I would remember to check the date everytime.

Hello wondericequeen,
It is a good thing to do. It saves money, time and your health too. I am a type of person who loves to buy and keep the stuff. So, I need to be extra careful. Sometimes, I can keep the food especially canned or packet food for over a year. I don't really care about myself but I care too much about my loved ones. I can get sick but I don't want them to fall sick because of me. Amazing huh?

Always, especially on dairy products. My family's well being is more important to me then the hassle of checking a date.

My wife and I definitely check the dates on our things. The reasons being is that we are both two very busy people, professionals who work 9-5. Take into account the fact that I am also in graduate school right now and working a second, freelance position for a website, and it can get pretty hectic. We usually need food that lasts for a while because a lot of times we'll end up at Denny's or something for a quick meal because we are too busy to cook as much as we like. The later the expiration date, the longer we know we can keep something and the more likely we are to use it all and not waste money.

Hello thrwbckjay67,
I can understand your hectic schedules. People like both of you, will truly depend on instant food. So, the best is to check the expiry date rather than just take and pay for the product. Like you said, the longer the expiry date, the better it will be!
