Has anyone out there been diagnosed with "Metabolic Syndrome?" Any idea what it is? Were you prescribed medicine? Has anyone overcome this diagnosis and is now back to "normal." Is the next stage diabetes?

Metabolic syndrome is a number of changes in the body that is related to lifestyle and that can be diagnosed by criteria like obesity + hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) + hypertension + hyperuricemia . It's been shown to be a major determinant of progression to type 2 diabetes (the acquired one) in fact some authorities consider it a TYPE of diabetes . Metabolic syndrome is caused mainly by excess calories and lack of exercise over long period of time . It is becoming more and more important because of the increase in the habits that cause it , because it has serious consequences to personal and community health , and because it is REVERSIBLE . I am not personally familiar with a case of metabolic syndrome recovering completely HOWEVER if you read about BARIATRIC SURGERY it has been demonstrated that blood pressure is greatly reduced and blood sugar is almost completely normalized after having gastric bypass surgery for example so metabolic syndrome might be considered reversible when there is timely intervention .
