I lived,we moved to just over the line in the next county, where my ancesters settled when they came from Ireland.Which is very conveinent for me to do my genealogical research.I have some distant cousin's that do not live around here and use the computer for research and email me or call me to ask me information or to get documents for them.Which is not a bother because genealogy is my number one hobby. But,I wonder how many people are near where their ancesters settled. Are you?

My ancerstors came from Donegal in Ireland and settled in Glasgow. That was my great great grandparents and I still live in Glasgow as do the majority of my family. We are not big travellers in my clan.

I live in the same area as my fathers ancestors. Same house, same farm, and all. My family's lived in this neighborhood since they emigrated here in the mid 1800's. It's easy for me to do my genealogocal searches too, hahaha. (Very easy!) I also have some cousins that don't live around here, but I know where every one of them is. My mothers ancestors were from New York, almost all of them are still there. My Dad met my Mother while he was in the service up there, and she left the city to come down here when they married. I often imagine what a culture shock it must have been for her to marry and come to live on a farm in the middle of the country. She was great on the farm, never would have known that she was raised in a city setting.

Wow,you are lucky.Until about a month and a half ago I lived in the same county that my ancesters are migrated to from Ireland.I was put into a position where I moved just over the county line. The ancester that came here's farnm has been developed and the house is no longer there and the same with his son.One of his son's house is still standing. It was rebuilt in the 1930's due to a fire. Most of the land has been sold off because of taxes.A few years ago,a distant cousin, who had inherited it thru the years passed away and willed it to her son.Her son could not afford the taxes and sold it to his ex wife and they have no children. So,it is not in the family any longer. If I could afford it I would buy it and put it back into the family.Have it to be willed only in the family.

I have a very unusual situation in that my ancestors came from Canada and Northern NY State was Canada for awhile. So some ancestors were on this side of the border and some on the other, but mostly the other. They mostly spoke French and were in French Catholic areas. So most of the genealogy is in French reguardless of what side of the border they were on. So since I'm in Northernmost part of NY State (near the Canadian border by 5 to 10 minutes) or former French Canada NY State part, yes I am close to where I could do genealogy, so far. 9/11 has made things harder. Take care
