Why do people slow down when there's a cop on the road?

I was going to work today, and although the posted speed limit is 65mph, everyone was doing between 55-60mph because there was a police car on the road. This is soooo annoying! I wanted to yell out the window and tell people "YOU'RE ALLOWED TO DO THE SPEED LIMIT!!!" What was really funny was that they "police" car was for the airport. It had Transit Authority on the car, as well as a license plate with the local airport on it. I'm sure they guy was late for work and wanted everyone else to do the speed limit also! I know that people tend to slow down when there's a car on the side of the road that has a rack on top of it also - people think it's a police officer. Do you maintain your speed (unless you're speeding) when you drive around police cars or do you slow down so you are not going the speed limit - just to make sure you don't get a ticket?

Heck no I don't slow down and it drives Hubby nuts! I do the speed limit, why should I slow down? I also don't move out of the way of a cop that doesn't have lights on. Hubby will instinctly move to the side to let them pass on 4 lane streets (not highways), not me. Unless they are in code, they are no better than anyone else, why panick?

That's exactly how I feel. If they don't have lights flashing, they're just another car and deserve no special attention. I think people that panic actually cause more accidents.

You should be cautious when driving anyways. Just because a cops around shouldn't make a difference.
