If you leave your computer on in the night.. Will you save more money on your electric bill? Or if you take it off.. which is basically the cheapest way?

Hi darkond, I shut my computer down when I go to sleep, I think it saves on the electric bill because it is not running and using any power. When I am in the house I usually have it on. Do you shut yours off at night?

Welcome to mylot, are you having fun here? It takes a while getting use to everything and making new friends. Don't get discouraged, you'll be a pro at it very soon.

I sleep mine mostly. If I go away for a trip I do power-down though. I do it for the longevity of the system.

Most computers use about the same as two 100 watt lightbulbs to operate. It used to be that turning a computer off and on would cause stress to them and wear them out, but that's no longer a problem. So, yes, it saves money if you turn it off when you're not using it.

Turning it off at night will save you money on your electric bill. Leaving it on all the time saves wear and tear on the computer itself, but there are benefits to turning it off, one of which is the lower energy bill.

Of course take it off can save more money on your electric bill. Every device cost the electric when they are on. So if you want to save more money please turn off it when you are not using it.

Obviously it will use more electricity if it is running permanently. Nevertheless, I rarely turn my computer off and consider that the cost of electricity is fairly negligible.

I don't see why it would SAVE energy by keeping on overnight. I always turn mine off at night. That's like saying you save manpower by pushing a boulder-when you don't have to.
