Three dogs - is that too many?

They are small dogs, mini-dachshunds, and they don't make much of a mess. There are three people in our family (that live at home), so each one of us has a dog. But my mother-in-law says that's too many, that we just need 1 dog for the whole family! Of course, she's not a pet person, and doesn't like dogs very much and cats not at all.

I would not think so, as long as they are all cared for properly and looked after. it is really up to you and if you have the time for them. It sounds like they are al part of the family anyway...Enjoy them.

Oh, yes! Each one has bonded to one of us. I'm home during the day, and my husband is there at night. My daughter is there some of the time, so there is almost always someone home with them.

The have short hair, so we bathe them at home, so that's not a problem.

three small dogs are not to much- now if the were great danes then - yes that might be a bit much- but so long as they are clena- happy - fed and well kept- there is no problem. I think its great I would have 10 dogs if my house were bigger. Don't listen to your mother in law, I don't listen to mine...lol

HELL NO!!! 3 is not enough!!! LOL When I lived in Arizona we had 15 dogs. All BIG dogs!! Its not how many you have its how you take care of them. If you can take care of more than one or two go for it. If you have time for more than one go for it. Right now I have 2 dogs who weigh 50+ lbs each!! We live in a trailer and I have two children plus I watch two more. As long as everyone gets along and is fed, I dont see a problem. Tell your mother in law to but out!!! Shes not the one taking care of it.

No, I don't think that three dogs are too many as long as you are able to properly care for these animals. We have a total of four dogs in our home. We have two German Shepards mixed, a Brittany Spaniel, and an Irish Setter mix. They are all medium to large size dogs. We love our dogs very much and make sure that each dog gets the proper care that she or he needs. We have a large backyard for them to run around in as well.

They're small - we have a large yard - and we have a covered kennel with two dog houses in it! Not that they actually spend much time in the yard, the spoiled mutts!

I don't think three dogs is too much. Does she live with you? If she doesn't, they it shouldn't be of any of her concern. If you guys take care of them properly and everything, then I think everything is cool.

She doesn't live with us, but she does visit occaisionally. Then, the dogs have to go out!

I've got 3 medium to large dogs. a greyhound, a lurcher and a deerhound. there are 4 people in my house. so 3 small dogs is no problem at all. the only trouble with three dogs is you've only got two hands

No, three is not too many. At one point I had four dogs, all larger breeds; golden retriever, husky, lab mix, german shepard rottwiler mix. The only time I think someone will have too many dogs (or any kind of pets) is when they can not take care of them all...otherwise you can never have too many! :)

Lulu with Tiny and Otis - Three of my daughter's dogs. Tiny and Otis are 3 months old in the picture. They're two pound puppies, the last of a litter of 8.
As long as you can afford to feed and provide proper veterinary care, and are able to give the dogs the attention they need, three is a good number. My daughter has 5 dogs, and they are one big happy family. She has a big fenced in yard for them to run around in, and she takes turns taking them out for walks and rides in the car. I've only got one dog, but I would like to have more.

Since each one has picked a member of the family to bond to, they all get a lot of individual attention.
