I have no idea why.. But recently, I've seen alot of people going about town with their sunglasses on. It's okay if the weather is all sunny and hot but the thing is, it's at the oddest places i can think of. 1)In the basement car park at the shopping malls. 2)In the shopping mall. 3)This wasn't recently, but i saw a guy wearing sunglasses in a club. I only use sunglasses in the car.. or when I'm walking along the street in the hot sun. Even if it's in the afternoon and the weather is cloudy, i still don't use my sunglasses. Why? They just remind me of Jack Nicholson. What are they trying to hide.. or is it just a fashion statement? Is it for medical reasons? Like after undergoing Lasik Surgery? DO any of you do this? If so, can you please share with me as to why you do this? Thanks alot. :)

Hello, shemah, the only reason i can think of is that people think they look' cool' if they are wearing sunglasses,no matter at the day or night time,at the beaches or at the pubs,if not, they should be celebrities who are afraid of being recognized by other people or stalked by pararazzi.:P May be some of them wear the sunglasses for medical reasons, just like what you said.

Hey there! Yeah.. i think the "cool" factor is the one they're going for.. MOST of the time. There are people out there who do have medical reasons.. but I don't think most of them go out clubbing trying hard to look like Kanye West, either. :P I can understand it if they're A-list hollywood celebrities, but nahhh.. chances of that happening in my small town here is close to nil... or never. :)

I have to wear sunnies almost all the time because I have an auto immune disease. One of the many things that my immune system attacks is my eyes and I have to use atropine drops. This make your puiple go as big as it can so I cant even stand a little bit of light. Shopping centre lights are too bright and I cant see all that well without sunnies. Car head lights are another ting that I have alot of trouble with ( I dont drive when i am having an active immune attack)

my eyes are a bit like that anyway. no medical reason, I just have very large pupils that don't contract properly.

I have had this condition all my life but it was about 5 years ago it hit really hard and my immune system went out of control and started to attack everything. I have had lots of steroid injections into my eyes and this sounds bad but it helps alot. It doesnt help living in Australia with one of the Brightest and gleary climates ever.

OH REALLY? Wow, nickers.. I'm really sorry to hear that. For that reason, of course it is necessary to use sunglasses. How long have you suffered from this? Is there a cure besides using the drops?

I was blind for most of last year, had 4 surgeries to correct it, but I would wear the drak glasses constantly, it helps others to not expect eye contact, also you feel strange when you can't see, like your eyes are aiming in different directions even if they aren't, so it's being self-conscious as well. I don't know about healthy people, lol.

I'm really sorry to hear that.. but as i said.. it is excusable for people with certain medical conditions.. i just don't know why healthy people do it. :) Thanks for responding and pardon the late comeback!

hahaha.. yeah.. they must be out of their minds to use sunglasses in the dark! i agree with you.. if they are perfectly healthy that is. Maybe the next time i see one of these people, i'll recommend them to use night vision goggles. :) Thanks for responding~

They thinks it's a fashion statement especially if the sunglasses are one of the designer brands.

Yes.. i agree with you. They think they can pull off celebrity looks.. however, celebrities have light bulbs flashing all around them.. can't blame them for using them at night. However, go with designer branded clothes or something.. just not sunglasses at night. :) Thanks for responding!

I noticed this too. There are a lot of people who were sun glasses in areas that are not that sunny or in areas that are not that bright. I always wondered why that was too. I think may be thy are trying to hide there eyes from the public. May be they are just trying to be cool. And may be, they have some insecurities and wearing the glasses help them have some kind of shield.

I personally think that MOST of them do it for the "cool" factor. I mean why would an insecure, healthy person do that? When you're being ridiculed by other people who see you, wouldn't that make you more self conscious and insecure? I would feel that way. I guess wearing a cap as a shield and lowering them over your eyes can give you the "mysterious and insecure" presence.. But sunglasses.. i don't think so. And the thing is, who said it was cool to wear sunglasses in the dark? lol!

Yeah I think it is about being cool too. May be when a person is insecure and wears these glasses, looking cool may help the insecurity thing; may be.

My husband has very sensitive eyes and wears sunglasses almost all the time outside - even when it's raining. Sometimes the other cars headlights are very bright for him and hurt his eyes. I don't know that he's ever worn them inside though...

yes,it is commen for man wear sunglasses on sunny day in order to protect their eyes or face, but on ordinary day they still wear sunglass,I think maybe they want to look cool with that.generally speaking, eyes can express one's feeling,so covering their eyes with sunglasses they look more secretful.

haha.. So trying to look mysterious is their motive, huh?? yeah, maybe.. I just think that even if it is so, they shouldn't overdo it, right? At least not at night. :P It's bordering on ridiculous more than mysterious.. :) Thanks for your thoughts, angela. Really appreciate it!

Could it be possible that they do that because they want to express a certain imagine of being cool with the sunglasses rather than protecting their eyes? I have personally seen a few people wearing sunglasses in some of the weird places you mention. But when I notice closer to their facial expressions, I often sensed a sense of pride there. That makes me that they are not actually protecting their eyes, but they think putting on sunglasses is very cool and want to let the world know how cool they are. But the thing is, I often find myself wanting to laugh when I see them!

haha.. i believe so too. Unless they have an immune problem like nickers27 here, then i guess it's okay. But yeah, like you too, i see that most of them just wear it for the "cool" factor. But the thing is, what part of that do they think is cool?? Wearing sunglasses at night makes you cool or a fool? I dont mean to offend anybody.. but just explain how cool it is.. *laughs* Thanks for sharing your thoughts.. i share your views on this one too! :)

I work in a restaurant and see this a lot - maybe to some people it is always to bright, even if the sun isn't out. It has always bothered me.

Yeah, the current trend seems to be to wear sunglasses everywhere. I see people wearing them in malls and other indoor areas where they aren't really needed. I guess they are just trying to look cool or something. Not everyone does this though. I still see a fiar number of people take them off when they go in a restaurant or something.

Perhaps I can figure out some reasons. First, they are celebrities. Second, they think they are celebrities but actually they are not. Third, they are just normal people but wearing in sunglasses may let others to think they are celebrities. I don't like wearing sunglasses in the dark, as others may think I am someone special:) It's better that they believe that I'm the celebrity than a criminal:)
