Ive read in books about Emperor Marcus Aurelius and his son Commodus. They really existed and were emperors of Rome. Is the story of Gladiator based on their story or they just used names of real people to portray fictional characters?

yes and no While it's obvious that an impressive amount of historical and scholarly reasearch was undertakem by the film makers, much of the plot is fiction. How ever the fiction does however, appear to be inspired by actaul historical events.

yes in a way that it derives historical icons like Marcus Aurelius. No because the story is too good to be true.

It is based on true facts, but afcourse there are many fictional elements in it, becouse it is created in HOLLYWOOD . People there make films for money, not to enlight people.

Maybe the framework of the film is based on the history, but I believe some of the plots are edited, especially the love stories. However, just by adding these emotions, the movie seems so grand, fatanstic and splendid
