Stars, ratings, colors....do they mean that much to everyone?

I recently read a discussion about someone's "short lived joy" over the color of their star! This has me wondering about myself. Granted I basically have no life but I have to say I get no "joy" or experience any other huge emotions over my ratings on any internet site. Mylot is one of my favorite sites and I enjoy the discussions and responses and earning money. I seldom even notice my star and if I were asked what color it is or what my rating is I couldn't answer unless I checked it out. Am I reading these discussions wrong or are there members who really do get overly excited about their ratings here? Do you check yours often and get excited if it's gone up or feel bad if it's gone the other way? Do you take the ratings that seriously?

Ok, ctry, I'll admit it. Yes, I was a little bent out of shape when I was demoted back to a previous color star, but I'm all over that now. I figure It really had nothing to do with me, so I just keep plugging away and trying to be a good panelist. The stars must stand for something-and everyone wants to be recognized for their good work. That's what I think.

The stars and ratings can change if someone doesn't like what we say and to them I say....grow up. We all have a right to our opinion and not everyone is going to agree with everyone else.

When I first got my star, I was excited too. But, after you've had it for a while it becomes a "so what" type of thing. I personally have not seen any real connection between the star/rating and the quality of the discussions or responses from different people. I have a "friend" who's star/rating is "in the toilet"; but, he writes well and has interesting discussions and I would rther read his discussions than the discussions of some people who have much higer stars/ratings.

That's what I'm talking about. Someone can post the best discussions but if a couple of members don't like it their ratings go down. It's for that reason that I don't even look at mine any more.

When I first got my rating of a 10 I was exciting and then for some reason it went down to a 7, and I wondered what was wrong. it was not until now did I noticed it was a 10 again LOL so I guess I donot take them seriously =)

You must have slighted a person or two to make it go down. We can never tell, no matter how hard we try.

I enjoy mylots discussions too.And I have made some friend's here, matter of fact my first friend was you ctrymuziklvr. Thanks for responding to my discussions.I first came here because I was told I could make money here.I was in a real bad financial spot in my life.I immediatly had no internet access because of my former landlady. Then I had to spend alot of time finding a new place to live and get internet access back.I did and I got in myLot and made some post asking questions about the stars, ratings, colors just so I'd know what I was doing.I did not mean to cause a problem by asking.I guess this may not be the place for me.

Nobody causes problems by asking questions here. Don't ever worry about that. The majority of members are here to make a little bit of money and the way we do it is by discussions and responses. My point was why do some members get so upset when their color or numbers fluctuate? If my rating changed I would look at the quality of what I'm posting and would hope that would give me the answer. This is definitely the place for you. Stay and keep posting...we all appreciate it!

I will be honest I do feel happy when it goes up because then I know that I haven't upset anybody. If it goes down, I do wonder who I upset and what did I say wrong.

I never wonder who I upset because more often than not they let themselves be heard so I know who it is.

Dear ctrymuziklvr I really care a lot about Stars, ratings, colors .. whenever my star rating goes down -- I really feel bad -- that whose giving me negative and why is this happening to me .. I really work hard here .. so I think I should get the right thing. Though I know it won't affect our earnings .. but I really feel nice when my star count increases :) and it really motivates me a lot to do more and more mylotting :)

It looks like everyone has different feelings about it doesn't it? Like I've said I never even notice my ratings. I just type and read away and hope to make my earnings goal.

It seems to be the newer members that are concerned about the stars and ratings. I love the site for the learning experience of various topics and the friends I have made. I love the money albiet it minute at times. HAHAHA! But I don't "worry" about it. It concerns me at times when there's a rash of deletions etc but otherwise I sit here and have fun typing away. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I think I've been lucky because I've never had a discussion deleted. Considering the guidelines and all they basically ask is that everyone be nice I don't see why anyone has one deleted.

World, I've been down to the red #9 before. So don't jump to conclusions until you have all the facts. And when that happened I felt oh well I am still here and still having fun. And no offense taken at all. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I hope you don't take offense, web, but I can't help but notice that all of you who say the ratings don't matter still have your blue star. Maybe if they took yours away like they did mine, you would care.

I have some up's and down's on my ratings back then, but never did I get to question mylot about this matter nor accuse someone of sabotaging my reputation. All I did was made a topic about it, asked some opinions if they get affected by their ratings going down and some good ideas on how to climb up to the top again. By that, I learned a lot from other posters and one member gave me the link pointing to mylot's profile that answered every each of my questions. From that time on, I never worry much about my ratings going down because I know how to maintain and keep it this way. I do check my ratings from time to time, but I don't get that much affected anymore.

Our ratings fluctuate because of what other members think of our discussions and responses. Unfortunately sometimes members take things too personally and if they disagree or don't like what they read they will give it a minus.

I will admit, I fell into that hype when I first joined the site. At first, I thought it was a mark of status and affected earnings. As I've spent more time on this forum and interacting with people I can call my "internet friends" it's mattered less and less. I have never really taken into account the differences in my own star, nor does it matter to me any longer. I enjoy my time at myLot, the star just tells me how many people like my responses and who disagrees with me. Seeing my star now, I guess I am an agreeable person. Hahaha.

I think in the beginning we are all conscious of our ratings hoping to get as high as we can as fast as we can. If we look back to our first posts I wonder if we would see a difference between then and now?

I think there are a lot of members who take the ratings very seriously. When I first started, I saw my rating as a measure of how well I was doing at expressing myself, and was proud that it became a 10 quickly. I felt that having a high rating meant that I was adding quality content that people enjoyed. However, the more I've learned about how people use the rating system, the less it has mattered to me. My rating dropped quickly and suddenly, and like many others here I'm guessing it's because I disagreed with someone's opinion and they chose to rate me poorly because of it, or because I am sometimes too controversial. So it really doesn't matter to me anymore, because I would rather say what I feel like saying and have people that I care about respect me for it than worry about whether I offended someone just because I am different from them. I think ultimately it was for me a shift that involved feeling that I have actual friends on mylot, and not just people on my friend's list. Even if my rating were to drop to a 1, I know many people here that care about me and have been kind to me. So the star ratings and all that aren't really an issue for me anymore.

Yes, it takes time for us to figure out the way the system works and realize that so many members abuse it. That's the good part of having a lot of friends. We are assured to get some decent ratings to outweigh the bad ones.

No I don't. As long as I post discussions and respond to many then I am happy with that. It's nice to know that my responses have been some help to others especially they select BR - makes me feel like I am contributing something you know! Oh and I must not forget the earnings too at the end of each month which I look forward to getting to!

Sometimes I think people rate our discussions on a more personal basis than they should. If they don't like someone they give them a minus and that's not the way it should be is it?

I don't take the ratings seriously. I could care less. It reminds me of elementary school where they give you a star if you are good, etc.

I feel the same way. It's like getting a star on your heads for being good isn't it?

My star has been all kinds of colors before. I have been brown, yellow, pink, white, green, red, grey, and blue. Does it matter to me which color I am. At first it did bother me to think that people thought so little of my responses and discussions. I didn't understand how the star rating actually worked till a read a few other members discussions where people was discussing the stars. After reading these discussions I realized that there are people who abuse the rating system. NO, I no longer take the rating system seriously because I understand that someone may not like my views about something and will rate me a negative. I can't control what others do.

Like anything else that involves so many people unfortunately we are going to find those who disagree with us and definitely will abuse the system. Thus, hurting other people's ratings.

I used to bother about the star, rating etc in Mylot when I was new in to Mylot. But now, I understand that, it doesnt matter at all to me. I have got a new friends here to discuss, to share my ideas, to earn money etc, which is better than the ratings. I believe, if we are sincere in our efforts of posting some good topics and discussion, then ratings will come to us automatically. Just worry about posting some good ones and rating will follow them ...

Yes, I'm sure it does. I think it means a lot to admin and they figure out our earnings by our ratings.

I did when mylot first started using them, I had a 9 like so, then it went to a 10 in a week. I was like OK, that's cool, glad to see I am loved. Then the day came I got into a tiff with one troll, just one. The next day I dropped from a 10 to an 8. I was so mad, I created a post about it. Then the next day I was back at a 10. Then once again I got into it with another troll and once again it dropped down to a low 9. That's when I figured out these ratings are nothing but something to be attacked by jerks. That's it and there isn't anything else to them. Most posters who like your posts, don't even bother using them. I still do, but I just feel it's a waste of time. I have wrote mylot telling them how inaccurate these things are and how easy it is for them to be attacked. They just keep denying that one person can drop your rating. *sigh*

I'm not so sure that just one person can effect a rating either. I would hope it takes a lot more than that. I feel the same way you do....sigh!

No, I really dont care for the star, it really has no meaning except for segregating people into certain groups and thats not fair, we are all here and should be treated the same. I dont care for the star or rating. To me its useless. I will still respond to a discussion no matter what star they have, so it makes no difference.

I'm newbie, so I still have no star! Lol I'm posting away, and it will be cool when I can get the star, just to see if people appreciate what I'm posting, or if they basically just think I'm full of crap! Lol I will be pleased if I get a good rating, and I'll keep an eye on it, but if it goes down, I don't think I'll be throwing myself in front of a moving train! Lol
