Problems with a Crock pot/slow cooker lid?

I have a slow cooker, or crock pot, what ever you want to call it, but the lid has no air vent. This causes the liquid that condenses on the lid to roll down and get caught on the lip where the lid rests. Then as pressure builds it splatters the liquid all over everything. Is there something I could do about this. It really is annoying me and I was hoping someone here might have come up with a solution to the problem.

I have had the liquid build up around the lip of the crockpot, but have not had a problem with it splattering the liquid. However, you can't have a vent, because it would release heat. The whole idea behind the crockpot is that it keeps the heat in and is able to cook at a lower temp.

I had a feeling that was the case for cooking but I wasn't sure. Thank you. I think i will try cooking on a lower setting.

A slow cooker needs to be sealed so a lid with a vent hole just would not work. If pressure is building up it sounds like you are cooking on too high a setting. I cook a lot of soups in my slow cooker so it cant be too much liquid. Im sorry I dont think there is a solution, its just the way slow cookers are.

Thank you. I think you re probably right with the cooking on too high a setting. I tend to cook things on high. I think I am afraid they won't be done in time for dinner or something. My slow cooker has four settings high, low, keep warm and off. I will try using low from now on and maybe starting some of them earlier.

A slow cooker lid does not have an air vent. It has to seals in the juices. That is why you add less liquid. For instance, if you are making a pot roast, you put just one cup of water over it. If you are making a stew or a soup, you use two cups of water. If you put the same amount of liquid that you would use for a Dutch Oven, it will spill over. Here is a link to some crockpot recipes. http://www.tastycrockpotrecipes.net/ They might give you some suggestions.
