What do you think of when you hear that someone is a liberal mom?

What do you think of when you hear that someone is a liberal mom? How about strict mom? When I tell friends that I'm a liberal mom, I find that I get all kinds of bad reactions. I'm sure these friends just assume that I allow my kid to do dangerous things. Totally not true. Currently I'm trying to find a balance between kid freedom and sensible parenting. It's a concept that's working well for our family. What do you think when you hear the term "liberal mom"? How about "strict mom?" Do you imagine that a very strict mom spanks her children or is mean to her kids? Are these just sterotypes that we learn from movies or television? Or, could they reflect the truth of parenting? What do you think?
