Starting your own blog

My boyfriend and I are working on making our own blog. The blog is about what I have experienced in college in a humourous way. I'm hoping other college kids or whoever will read it for fun and for advice. I'm working on putting an advice column on it and some other random stuff. However, we aren't entirely sure that we are doing everything right or if there is a better way to go about it. So, any suggestions about blogging are more than welcome. Thanks so much everyone.
