What do you do if you forget the name of someone you've just been introduced to?

You're at a party and your host introduces you to a group of people...
You think: "Ka-thy, should be easy, she kind of looks like a cat. Rob, alright, looks like a slick one, might rob me blind. Harry -- easy peasy, I've never seen hairier in my life, and you sir.. umm, er, Jerry, Gary, Barry, Larry, Moe????????"
What do you do when you forget someone's name at a party? Do you ask again and risk looking rude? Do you just avoid all conversation with them all night? Do you ask someone else hoping they remember? Or do you just call them 'Hey you' or 'Buddy' for the rest of the night? :)

I normally just try to carryon a conversation without having to use their name.
If it's someone I'd like to keep in contact with, I will give them my name and number and then ask them to write down their info for me.
This usually works for me.

I usually tell them that I am really bad with names, put all of the blame on myself and ask for his name again. Actually, I would be lucky to remember one of their names because I'm terible with names. I would probably start calling one person somebody elses namy because I get easily confused. Take care, Terry

I always ask them again LOL even though it does seem rude that I did not remember their name in the first place, but at least it shoes I am trying, aren't I? LOL My friends think its rude of me to not even remember! I just don't have a good memory as they do LOL

most ppl dont find it rude if u ask their name and apologise that u have forgotten the name. i usually forget names too. but if u are looking for some other way to get the name, u can always ask someone else for the person's name.
u just dont avoid conversation only because u dont know the person's name, do u? kinda weird thing u said there

If I can't remember someone's name I just ask them what their name is, and tell them I can't remember!! I don't see why people have such a hard time admitting when they forget someone's name. I'd rather just be honest about it, and get an honest answer quickly.
