I am a parent who believes the teen should have a job first and until legally able to sign a contract, prepaid phones are best.

Our boys didn't recieve cell phones until they turned 16. The only reason we furnished them then was because they were driving and we wanted to them to be able to reach us if they were in an accident. We got them a membership into AAA at the same time. Every parent has to determine what works for them and what they feel comfortable with. It sure isn't an easy decision but nothing dealing with kids is!

For the time being my older daughters are using pay as you go phones. Originally everything was tracfones. Now there are a couple of Net10 phones in the mix. This is the compromise position, since we were not able to purchase a family plan with the regular wireless phones. This is an article I wrote accessing the usefulness of tracfones. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/80652/tracfone_taking_it_to_the_limit.html
