What is the point of this? Its said that if you have an earache to do this and I wondered what the point is. Does it have to be a specific smoke or can it come from any source?

i cant see how that would do any good. sounds like an old wives tale.i have heard the one where you use a candle but i cant see the point. why not try and ask the chemist for ear oil or drops. something tried and trusted.

lol. it is quite funny. i have a very old book with survival tips for the 1800's it said if you had an ear ache, you should take bacon, let it ripen, to the point of green. then roll up en place in the ear. can you imagine.

I had a friend who's grandpa used to do this when his grandchildren had earaches (he was raising them) and then he'd put a cotton ball in their ears right after. She says that when he did that within seconds the earache stopped hurting. Her grandma would use warm olive oil on a cotton ball when grandpa wasn't home or was out of smokes. I read that the nicotine in the smoke acts as an anesthetic and the heat also helps with the pain.
